My wife and I are about to buy our first travel trailer. Any suggestions or concerns between a Rockwood Mini Lite or a Passport? Prefer no slide and 80” queen (I am 6’4”). Are they equivalent?

Stay away from anything with the word "Lite" in it and definitely get a camper with at least 1 slide out. Good luck.

Yes, you will be happier with a slide out. It makes a lot of difference.

Thanks. Thought I wanted to avoid slide, but friends and family say they don’t seem to create as many problems as I am afraid of.

Where do you like to camp? Slides are amazing in wide campgrounds. In dense forests some spots don’t fit a slide

Get the slideout if it is an option. Just feels better

Agree with the slide out part not to sure about the lite part. What's wrong with aluminum wall construction? Thats basically what makes a camper a lite.

My wife wants a slide, so I am sure we will end up with it.

I worked for Fleetwood for around 5 yrs when they where still I'm business never heard of issues with slide out. Heck my camper now is what we called a plumbing slide because it has the kitchen sink in it. A camper the size your looking into would probably just have a dinette slide any way not much to go wrong. Motors dont usually just go bad in them like they did when they first started using them.

Lite campers have to skimp on everything to save weight. Thinner cabinets, lighter hardware on everything. The camper we had that was “heavyweight” was just more durable and rugged. Floor creaked less, felt more insulated than the previous lightweight model.

I have not felt this way about my coachman ultra lite at all. Very well made.

Agreed i have a Rockwood mini lite bunkhouse and it is well built. Definitly go for the slide out if you can.

Camping world was one of our worst experiences we have ever had buying something. Wait we didnt buy from them because they wouldn't even show us new campers idk if it was my age or beard or that is was still dirty from work. But it was awful and degrading for sure. I know we are not the only people that stay away from camping world.

Thank you for the responses in this thread. We are going with a "lite" but with a slide out. It is a Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S, but not from Camping World or GanderOutdoors. Stock, it seems to have what we have been looking for or friends and various sites have suggested. We had been leaning toward a Passport but ultimately decided we did not want an outside kitchen/second refrigerator or a murphy bed. As for the Rockwood, I have read about cheap tires and inadequate straps for full fresh water tanks on the road, but plan to deal with that, either by not carrying more than about 10-15 gallons of fresh water on the road or mods to the trailer (just like my Tundra, something to mod - wonder what the largest tire that will fit stock rims might be....)

Very nice choice. I personally miss my old camper that had the out door grill hook up. But we use a Weber now and it works pretty good. Nice camper ! Screenshot_20190903-153020_Chrome.jpg

Definitely get the slide out and if y'all are gonna be camping in the summer in Texas you might want to think about the 15K BTU AC unit.

Thanks. The 15K A/C is one of the "options" it came with, plus power tongue and stabilizer jacks and a maxxair fan and vent cover, which happen to all be things my in-laws had recommended, in addition to the slide out. This trailer has an LPG grill that mounts on the outside wall (you can see it in the floor plan above), but I am not sure I will end up using that. I am a Royal Oak Red lump charcoal fan, both for my smoker and for steak grilling. We are supposed to pick it up this weekend are and are heading to Rayburn next weekend to make sure everything works.

That is the truth. Depending on which site you are at the time, the pendulum can swing entirely and only make you question what you had already decided. About the only thing I have not seen criticized is an Airstream but that is because they are so high I did not really consider them or look too much at reviews; my wife would have been really pissed if I suggested spending that much on a travel trailer. She cooperated and encouraged this one, so life is good!

We originally had a Winnebago 1790 (no longer since a tree fell on it and totaled it out) which was an 18 foot trailer. Our old 4Runner (2017) pulled it with minimal issues but we did have to watch for the tongue weight. We traded the 4Runner in on a new 2019 Tundra (which was killed by the same tree that got the trailer) since it had more capacity. Insurance (GAP and auto) paid off the note completely and allowed us to get another 2019 Tundra TRD Off-road 4x4.
Now we have a 2401RG (27'11") Winnebago and the slide makes a LOT of difference. It did also on the also on the 1790, which was the dinette and on the 2401 RG it's the couch/sleeper. GVWR for the 2401RG is 7000lbs and dry weight is 5220lbs.
If looking for a shorter/lighter trailer consider the Minnie Drop series (yes, I'm partial to the Winnebagos as we've had good luck with them other than the tree assassin killing it).

Take a look at the coachman 2245bh

We find it has ample space and its is a great weight for the tundra.

I am sorry, but your suggestion is too late for me and my wife. We both decline Murphy beds. Thank you, though for the reply. We pick up our trailer Saturday.
