Been looking for a shorter antennae in order to get in and out of the garage without any issues. Bought one, but the reception is not great. Anyone tried taking a few inches off the factory antennae and replacing the ball at the end?

I saw this on Tacomaworld and actually wanted to do this with my Tundra but I bought my truck without an antenna and @Sean266 got rid of his stock one before I could steal it from him.

From a fellow engineer, you'll be fine. It's not until you get down to scientific BS that you will see differences. And even then, the difference is mainly on paper and not in actual workability and reception in the antenna.

All of you need bigger garages. Stop cutting your antennas and build a bigger garage!

Hahaha I know right. honestly, half the time mine isn't even in because the car wash place around the corner takes it off and I just said screw it.

I cut about 4 inches off with my dremel tool. Doesn't seen to effect reception at all.

It wont. the science behind reception tell you that cutting an inch or 2 won't affect anything.

How much could you safely cut off in your opinion?

    Thanks,

Thanks. Did you replace the little ball or leave it straight? Is it easy to remove the ball?

I couldn't get the little ball off. I put a little piece of heat shink wrap on the end

Good idea, thanks. No whistling or anything when you drive at higher speeds?
