I recently picked up a new, old stock, Elite Impulse 31 a few weeks ago. It's my first new bow in close to 20 years. Picked up a used Athens testament 3 or 4 years ago, but couldn't shoot it well at all, even after spending a lot of time getting it tuned and new strings. Ended up selling it to buy a crossbow to hunt with last year. This new elite had me shooting decent groups almost immediately. Eager to get some more time behind it and get out and hunt with it later this year or next season. I won't hunt with it until im confident in myself.

Probably won't hunt this year because I just got back to shooting, but I shoot an Elite GTO from 2008. From what I recall, it was only made that year but is a fantastic bow. I don't have anything to compare it to but it's definitely smooth and easy to shoot.

So who here bow hunts AND lives in So Cal? I’m in Santa Clarita. The city just opened a public park that is a FREE public archery range. No gear rental but there are hay bale targets with 10 shooting lanes. They have large light poles with stadium lights that are hopefully being installed by Spring and the city gave the OK for shade covers. Would love to meet some fellow tundra owners who also bow hunt. Maybe join each other for an AO weekend. Starts in TWO WEEKS! Can’t get here quick enough

Since I travel every year to MT for (elk & whitetail) archery season I've gotta pick a week to head over for 10 days. I've learned this is the max amt of time I can disapear into the woods before my wife, family and work start asking questions I'd like to avoid.

We've been too early before and too late before, with a lot of factors to consider, moon cycle, temp, wild fires, etc. Last year we went the third full week in Sept (14th-23rd). Two of us got bulls (18th and 20th) and the rut was in full swing. This year we're planning heading over a bit later, 20th till the 29th. Hopefully this play outs well again.

    What's eveyone's plans this year?

    Can't wait!

Leave for UT Friday, 12 days. Meet my elk partner on the mountain. We’ll set a base camp and then spike out from there. If / when we tag out it’ll be off to MT for Muley and antelope. Lotta windshield time on the Tundra.

My freezer’s empty. I went on a carnivore diet the day after the Superbowl and ate my entire bull elk from last year. It was a lean year offshore too, so no tuna in the freezer either. I find that I am a better hunter when I’m hungry...

The tuna are going off right now down south. I usually fish out of Point Loma. I did an early trip in June and limited on YT. Went again in July off shore and got skunked on BFT/YFT, but my friend got a small one. He gave me half the meat. But right now, I think most boats are limiting on tuna.

Put my first doe of the year down yesterday. Still have a bunch more for tags to fill, but I'm going to be focusing on trying to get a nice buck. Been seeing a handful of shooters on my game cam and hopefully I can squeeze off a shot at one soon.

Don't kill just for the sake of killing. Had a brother in law killed deer just for numbers , now his hunting area is pretty much void of deer. Respect them , eat all you hunt and more of the big ones will come.

The area I'm hunting is under pressure to knock the deer herd down considerably. We are averaging twice the number of deer per square mile than what we should have. Trust me, any deer I shoot goes to feed me or my family. Nothing gets wasted.

Been there with that problem,,the DNR brought in sharp shooters after dark over bait and destroyed the herd . Were only supposed to take does and yearling bucks , they shot everything and took many trophy animals home for them. They had pickups loaded with deer . Only see 1 or 2 deer within miles of area now. Good luck on the big one and keep the family fed , that's all I eat is venison , no store bought .

The township I'm hunting has been working hard to prevent having sharpshooters come in again. They did it once about 10 years ago, it was effective, temporarily. But the deer population shot back up within a few years because there was no management program in effect afterwards. What they've been doing in the last few years is working with landowners to open up their property to hunting and and placing a hunter on their property. It's been working to an extent, problem is there are so many properties still closed to hunting. The USDA was brought in this past off season and took over the management program. The hope is to open up more properties again, to place more hunters.

Sounds like a really good opportunity for some trophy animals , with only 1 or 2 hunters per property , Hope it works out , good luck this year. What state you in?
