Getting ready to pull a 1,000 pound boat on a 500 pound trailer to the Florida Keys from New Jersey. 1,200 miles in all. I have a 5 speed auto trans. It seems unrealistic to drive at highway speeds for 1200 miles without overdrive.

Can I get away without using towing mode with a 1,500 pounds in tow without doing damage to the trans?

Or should the towing mode be used?

    Advice appreciated.

Do you have a way of monitoring your trans temperature?

Front Bilstein 6112 shocks & Bilstein springs. Rear Bilstein 5160 remote Reservoir shocks, Wheeler’s Off-road add-a-leafs. LED lighting. Pioneer Avic 7200NEX Nav Head unit. Borla cat back exhaust.
I used to tow a pair of watercraft, probably 2,000 lbs+ with my 2001 4wd AC. I usedOD on the flats & out of OD on the hills. Never any issues.

You will be fine. 1500lbs is nothing and that truck will barely feel it!

Now way to monitor trans temp. Thanks for the input. Feel better about now and use tow mode when needed and overdrive on the straight of ways.
