I have had my 2008 tundra in the shop getting the AC repaired. And the mechanic was having trouble fixing the problem then finally realized it was the compressor. He replaced the compressor and the drier. The AC seems to be blowing cold but now I've noticed (after getting my truck back yesterday) that now I'm leaking a good amount of coolant. The leak is coming from somewhere above the drain pan and I can't seem to find where it's leaking out of. I don't have any cracks in the overflow reservoir and the hoses seem to be good. Does anybody know what could be going on? Is it possible that they had to disconnect or remove the radiator or parts to it to replace the compressor and did not reconnect all parts? Any help is appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.

First thing you need to do is drop the skid plate, chock the tires/parking brake, make sure your fluid levels are good, start the truck, get under the truck and see the leak.

Most likely, the radiator was removed. The clamps to the radiator hose/radiator may not have seated properly and is leaking by when the system comes up to pressure.

I would also be calling the shop back.

Thank you. The best I can tell it's coming out of multiple places. Not looking good.

I'm with TJ on this. Also, our Tundras are kinda known for cracking the radiator. Regardless, it's a solid place to start.

But i'd definitely be on that shops ass. And if the radiator cracked it's most likely due to improper reinstallation which is the shops fault.

Wonder if the shop attempted to pull the compressor out and punched a few holes in the radiator?

Definitely my thought. I've done a few radiator replacements the Tundra and if a tech is sloppy they can crack pretty damn easily.

Unfortunately, our radiators have cheap plastic on the top and bottom. Hairline cracks happen due to pressure issues, weather changes, and improper coolant levels (overheating), not to mention it becomes brittle throughout the years. Also, check to see if your coolant cap is bulging or concaved - this could indicate previous stress on the radiator which could have caused it to crack under pressure.

Huh, learn something new every day. I was not aware of the radiator issues in the Tundras.

I wouldn't say it's much of an "issue" but over the years more and more manufacturers have turned to using plastic making them more prone to failure. haha Regardless, it's not a terrible replacement. And replacement parts are found for pretty low prices. Just keep your fluids in check and you'll be peachy.

That's just unfortunate! You shouldn't have to deal with that until you are due for a timing belt.

That was 2014 so it already 7 years old (bought it with 17k in 2013), it was quite the repair job, took me about 4 hours. PS no timing belt in the 5.7 to ever change

My (pink) coolant is low after doing a engine check (2008 5.7).

    No signs of leaking.

Can I use regular auto store coolant?

GM Dexcool is also pink...... can I use that also?

    Pentofrost Antifreeze/Engine Coolant????

    What's the verdict?

Do not use Dexcool. Personally, I just use Toyota Radiator fluid. It’s cheap.

Radiator fluid will evaporate. I usually have to top off the Lexus and Tacoma from time to time.

i keep with toyota brand coolant... ebay's been the cheapest place i've seen it. A buddy of mine who's super nerdy looked in to the chemical side of things and low and behold, Toyota coolant is slightly different. I didn't bother double checking, just took his word for it and bought red stuff.

Smart man. Your very expensive cooling system and wallet will thank you later on down the road.
