I asked to pay in two payments which you obliged (sent a day apart). I didn’t ask you to cover shipping - you offered it a price of $200 shipped. There are absolutely ZERO missing connections. The top middle plug has no plug from the factory harness on either of the radios. It’s an empty port that I assume is an add on feature not included in the sr5. I asked if there was any unused plugs in the wiring of the truck to see if I was missing something. Turns out there isn’t.

A dogpile? Have I once named you publicly? Nope. Have you tried to resolve the issue at all? Nope. I called you shady over PM when you refused to help in any form or fashion. Hundreds of transactions packaged like that and I can guarantee you that you’ve had bad results.

I am very happy to install this defective unit and take videos and pictures when I have time to rio apart my dash for a third time to try to install a radio that doesn’t work. I don’t have the time to do so at the drop of a hat. Will GLADLY do so.

The simple solution would have been to pack it adequately. I even told you via PM (and I am happy to share ALL correspondence) that I didn’t think you sold me a defective unit. But in transit it became a defective unit. So something happened in shipping. The unit IS a defective whether you sold it that way (I don’t think you did) or whether it happened in shipping (which I think it did). When I asked you your response wasn’t helpful or accommodating, it was passing the buck and saying tough luck leaving you with $200 in your pocket and me with a stereo that didn’t work. Please tell me where anything I have said is untrue.........I have all correspondence to prove this.

Again, I will take apart my dash, plug this unit in and take videos or pictures to prove that this stereo is in fact defective and NOTHING I have said is untrue.

Went out this morning and tried AGAIN.....here are pictures and video to prove the radio sent to me does not work. Touchscreen does not respond (which makes the whole unit useless as I cannot add a phone, cycle through menus, etc) and maps do not load.

Yes and it is installed properly (I have read if the map card isn't seated properly it will not work so I made sure it was in properly).

Maybe this is a horrible idea....But sounds like the truck is new enough to be covered under warranty? I know its not the original radio the truck was delivered with, however dealers arent always that smart. There is a chance they dont notice and just replace it, or getting working for you. you just take it in (clean it up nice and make sure everything is plugged in right) and say nothing more than "my radio doesnt work" or tell them you tried to update software and know you have this problem (which i think is totally within an owners ability/doesnt void any warranty). How on earth would they know that you changed it? unless something obvious gives it away like there is another option the radio has that truck doesnt have?

    Shawn,
Maybe I can have my friend take it apart to try and fix it. If you are going to throw it away or use it as a paper weight, I'll pay for the shipping.

I understand. But you doing it is no different than the seller you bought it from doing it. If he still had it, he would put it back in his truck and take it to toyota, and they would replace it. So save yourself dealing with shipping it back to him. Its still toyotas problem. That radio was manufactured in July of 2018. I cant imagine them telling you sorry cant help you. They are gonna stand by their product no matter what, especially since its an OEM part.

I would send it to you; I won’t have any use for it.

Not if it was damaged in shipping.

I dont think the dealer/warranty will cover this. If you take it to the dealer and they run the VIN, the will automatically see that the truck came with entune with No Navigation. And if they dont catch that, Toyota will replace it with what's in the build spec - No Navi.

Im not siding with anyone here, but you cant prove it was damaged in shipping. You are assuming that. But, if it makes you feel better, tell toyota the truth, and they still might help you. They are gonna open up the dash, see that you are competent and installed it right, and then probably fix it for free because you bought a toyota.

The fact that it turns on and displays tells me its not damaged in shipping. My best guess is software needs to be re loaded. Its possible that what you are running into is a theft feature built in to the unit. Again, if you take it to toyota, tell them you bought it from a fellow tundra owner, give them the years, and say pretty please, they might just help you out for free.

Toyota will help out for free? Good Luck with that !!!

So, if I find a busted PRO suspension and take them to a dealer and tell them like what you suggest. Do you think Toyota will honor and hand me a set of new PRO suspension for Free?

Suspension and normal wear and tear items are COMPLETELY different. You absolutely cant compare the two. Were talking about a radio. And yes, its possible they tell you to kick rocks. Im not saying its a for sure thing. Its just really likely. IMO.

According to all others who have done this, it is plug and play. No need to reflash software, etc. If that has changed, it is not being reported by anyone who has done the swap. I think it's easily conceivable that the touchscreen function was damaged in shipping without other damage being apparent. Solder joints fail all the time when electronics get jarred, especially if you saw the packaging...…..Regardless, I am going to send to Jim and have his friend try to repair it and he can do whatever he chooses with it. Again, I want to be clear - whichever way this happened, it is readily apparent that the unit is not operational as is. Whether it happened before shipping or during shipping is a moot point. I paid for a unit that was supposed to be "perfect" and received a defective unit. I am out $200 and the seller has kept it - no offer to refund even with me paying return shipping, no offer to file a shipping claim I assume because it was sent uninsured, no offer to do anything except offer "ask a question on the forum" advice. I am thankful for the generosity of 19TurdPro and for all the help that the forum has given. I will be much more careful next time. I have no recourse from credit card company or paypal and it's a lesson learned.

And nobody can prove it was working perfectly before it shipped either......I have shown pictures of the install and have video of it not working after proper installation. What other assumption could be made? That I damaged it during install - I suppose that COULD be an assumption. That certainly didn't happen. But you know what happens when we ASSUME........I am taking factual information and generating a plausible conclusion.

Seller says he sold a perfect unit, I paid for it. Installed it and it isn't working. Reinstall my radio and all functions work.

    So what's your point?

My point was simply to give toyota a shot. They might surprise you. As you can see here, i gave you the benefit of the doubt that you installed it right.

Like i said, im not taking sides. I was offering a possible solution, which is what you started this post for to begin with. Im totally good with you not agreeing with it. Lets just leave it at that.

Anybody sure that it is plug and play for 2019? I seem to remember a nav setting on my printouts from TechStream. I'l have to check when I get home. I know some of the other options in TechStream changed for 2019 when I was looking at options available that others have done in the past. It may take a hit from the dealer to get it working correctly.

This whole thread seems like a whole lotta trouble to go through just to get Toyota's crappy entune navigation. Just about anything aftermarket is going to be far superior.

I know. I've seen a couple of swaps that didn't work in the past few weeks. I keep going to the pictures of the one I sold on Fleabay a few weeks ago and checking the serial numbers to make sure it isn't the one I sold. Mine was brand new (used a month and a half). Plus I haven't heard from buyer. :amen:

I agree to a point; I was trying to live with the unit for a year or so and then upgrade all the way with new speakers, head unit, etc. But the stereo that came with my truck is awful.....and I like the integrated navigation instead of using the scout app. So I thought getting the upgraded unit would tide me over for awhile.

That’s true, I forgot, I did offer to ship it for free.

Yes.. but is it needed for this stereo? Can anyone confirm?

But do we know that? Maybe it is, or maybe it’s not compatible in 2019. Or maybe that missing plug is needed. I don’t know, that’s why I wanted you to post the pictures, thanks. someone here knows!

I have no idea what TechStream is, but would appreciate any info you can contribute.

Anyone out there successfully swap a 2019?

I'll try to find the printouts a little later. I might get a quick minute.

TechStream is the Toyota diagnostic software that keeps getting leaked on the internet. Along with the right cable and a laptop you can hook to the OBDII port and do what the dealer can do.

I forgot above if you have just unhooked the battery for 10-15 minutes and let the computer reset, then hook it back up and let it start up again.

What about sending it back to the seller on your dime and have him take it to Toyota and let them check it out. Doesn't take long to re install, If it works fine in his truck, then its a compatibility problem, If it doesn't work then it is covered under his warranty and can get fixed. then he pays shipping back. Both out 15-18$ for shipping and radio is fixed. win-win for both sides and less hurt feelings between forum members that I "assume" weren't trying to cheat each other. Some times stuff just happens.
