Takes a day per diff. And a day to do the heat cycles. If only one guy works on it.

Three full days is realistic for one tech working on the project.

Got it back after 3 full days. I had to ask questions about break in period towing ect. Guy at the counter just had me swipe card and handed me my keys and was sending me on my way. But I've heard nothing but good things about the shop so I dont mind poor customer service as long as there work holds up.

Sounds like they didn’t do any heat cycles?

You’ll wanna drive the truck 15 miles. Let it sit most of the day u til rear end goes back down to room temp.

    Repeat two more times.

Then drive truck easy and varying speeds for 500 miles. Rush hour traffic is best. Or a simulation of such.

Change the oil and have at it;)

They told me they drove it 25 miles. I asked if I should change the oil after any amount of miles they said it wouldnt hurt but I dont have to and that I should do it after 1k if I do? They also gave me 3 options of oil 80-90 or 85-140 he said he would prefer?
    What would you recommend?

So my truck is finally ready after shop had it for over 2 weeks.(not their fault) They had to fix the leaks in both the lockers and had to wait for parts. Couldn’t order the parts till they took the diffs out to see what was wrong in the first place. So I’ll be picking up the truck tomorrow in Santa Clara and it’s 47 miles from my house. The gears are REM polished. I don’t believe they did the heat cycles and have a question about driving straight home. How bad would it be to drive 40 freeway miles and 7 city miles straight? I can stop after the 15 miles then take a 20 minute break or so then hop on the road but I would have to do this 3 times to make it home.

I figured as much. I was hoping cause of the REM polishing I could get away with it, but I guess safe than sorry is the wiser move.

That’s part of the reason I paid for the polishing. The other is that it’s supposed to make them potentially last longer or helps with how the wear I believe. I forgot. There isn’t a gear shop close to me that has a good reputation so felt like I had no choice. It wasn’t much more for it. Like you said overly cautious as this shit is not cheap to do.

This may sound like a stupid question but how do you guys know what gear you're on? Are you guys using some sort of an external device?

Move the shifter to S mode and select S4. That will limit the transmission to not shift above 4th gear. It will still use the lower gears

Since our trans is 1:1 ratio on 4th gear. The chart is for 4th gear rpms at (usually chart is 65mph on the charts)

Chiming in on the 4.88 gear setup. I have a 2017 Crewmax with the 4.6 engine on stock tires and recently made the gear change. My expectations included more power and an over revving engine. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Yes there is more power to the ground but every day driving feels about like it always did. The engine does rev about 450 rpms higher than before. This isn't the magic bullet that puts the 4.6L in the diesel towing class but if I had to replace this truck the first thing I would do is change the gearing. This is exactly the way the truck should come from the factory. There is little to no reduction in fuel mileage and the truck doesn't hunt for gears any longer. It is possible there is a mileage improvement when in the hills.

We are doing our best to carry Nitro. But have been selling Sierra, which is a better product, but a lot more expensive.
