Congrats, do they still make you do the duck walk?

I enlisted in 1995 as a 3E731 Fire Protection Apprentice with the Air Force. It changed my life for the better and lead to a rewarding career as a civilian. Good luck to you and enjoy your journey.

Bet a doctor had to look at your butthole too.

I wonder what makes a man get up out of bed every morning to go do that.

Congrats on your choice! It was so cool to go back to Paris Island with my uncle (retired Chief Warrant Officer) this year and see the guards at the front gate salute him. I was there as a kid when he was a DI in the '80s.

It will be life altering. I was Army '94-'98. I've had family in every branch (except maybe the Coast Guard...not sure there?) and multiple Marines in the family. I often wish I had stuck around more than 4 years, but my time spent in the service and that GI Bill were the greatest investments I've ever made.

Each branch of service serves its purpose, I respect those who serve(d) any and all branches.

Congratulations Matt! Serve proud and with honor, and thank you for your service.

There will be a lot of opportunities ahead of you so, just remember, you'll get out of it what you put in to it. Work hard young man.

And, another opportunity to shamelessly play proud Dad.

Congratulations!!! Both of my kids are active duty Navy and I couldn't be more proud of them. Biggest regret of my life was not serving in the Military.

Ignore the Marines vs Army vs what ever BS. Members of my family have served in all branches of the service. Each branch has their positive and negatives.

My son's best friend (who's also like one of my own kids) just finished up 5 years in the Marines doing avionics and while I will tell you, he didn't love it, he doesn't regret doing it.

It all comes down to 3 things. Your mindset, the rate/MOS you choose and luck as far as what orders/assignment you catch. You can't do much about the last one but the other 2 are within your control (assuming your ASVAB scores are high enough and you don't have any physical limitations?)

Good luck young man, I remember my time in the corps like it was yesterday. I went in Jan. 1983, you’ll have good days and bad but keep your head up and learn all you can. The lessons you’ll learn in the corps will serve you well for the rest of your life. Best of luck!

@Matty4wd Only speak when spoken to. Keep your answer as short as possible. Listen as if your life depended on it. Don't look at anyone for very long.
You're going to get yelled at. You're going to get pushed to the max. It's all to see if you have what it takes. They don't want you to fail no matter what they do or say to you. They just want to see how bad you want that Eagle, Globe, and Anchor.
And for God's sake, don't smile... ever.

I remember the guys with USMC shirts and or buzz cuts getting extra love during indoc, I would suggest not being that guy. I didnt count days as there were too many, I counted Sundays.

Good luck recruit. Boot camp sucks but the lessons will indeed stay with you for life.

Best of luck. I was at boot camp in San Diego, Navy side of the airport, and after we ran our 1.5 miles I watched the marine guys keep going. Air craft carriers are only so long . . . All kidding aside, I was a corpsman (medic), I enjoyed the marines I got to work with.
