    RCI fuel tank skid!

Damn :frusty: hard :frusty: install :frusty: in :frusty: its :frusty:challenges!! :frusty:

First off thanks to @sdde4n and @Porschetech29 for offering to install these skids in 10 minutes. Whenever I can I like to do myself if I can so I know the process and possibly help anyone also challenged overcome and get it done. No, it did not take me 10 mins! :angrygirl:

First off, you need to use the off road fuel straps that have screws you attach skid into. Check stealerships like Longo Toyota, their online price and when you order part ask for that price or you will get reamed up the wazoo for more money!

Support tank with a piece of wood and a floor jack or jack stand. When you put in the new straps, screw in bolt closest to outside frame just enough that side of the strap will stay connected. Then connect the longer side of the strap that's up inside edge of the tank, there should be enough slack to get the bolt in and then you can finish securing the shorter end of strap.

Pic of longer end with bolt attached

    22CECC50-7A05-4C0F-9FD2-67E119713350.jpg

The two recessed holes where you screw in the bolt to skid can be hard to line up and/or get a nut on. Almost thought i would have to have just one bolted in but i was able to get both sides on.

Biggest challenge is attaching the short bracket joining the skid to the frame. I have Demello sliders and the hole one of the supports on the slider has to share with the attach point of the skid bracket.

I have small hands and it was extremely difficult to line up the bolt and get the socket wrench into the frame to tighten up the connection. This was my last task to complete and had to wait until tonite to finish because I had to get a longer M8 1.25 grade 8 bolt because of the thicker joint. I was worried the longest bolt I was able to find at Ace might not have been enough but in the end it was and I was able to squeeze my hand and wrench to get the connection good and tight.

I came out of this install appreciating some greats skid, hating having no instructions but knowing I had friends I could go to if I needed and proud I got it done.

You know I'll be taking lots! Any word on your bumpers? I was actually going to ask about you guys and a few who placed orders before the GB, and was going to ask about their sliders for someone else lol

I posted pics earlier in the thread. But look at the Products Discussed window on the bottom, has a Headrest Mount for GoPro. The cam has no place to attach on to the mount so it's zip tied. Had to play with it a bit to get the right placement.

Before explaining what’s going on in the following video and stills from this run, I have some Thank You‘s to make even though I already did so in person.

    Jason! @JasonJK
    Daniel and Ashlynn! @JDL17CM4x4
    Phil the new dude! @TacoPharm
and not to say the least Sunny! @Sunnier
My Homies for life! :fistbump: Thanks for getting me out of a jam! Best trail buddies anyone could ever ask for!! You guys got me out and I am forever grateful!

So before we even got the the black diamond part of White Mountain we were making our way and at this point I’m 2nd from the last truck and most everyone is making their way up a steep, very gravely area.
After reviewing what led up to going over the edge I am realizing my eyes are up that hill where we are about to go and the other trucks are. I thought I was just making a quick glance and I still believe my eyes were off the trail for a short time; but that’s all it took! I was off trail and sat in a weird angle and I tried to back up but couldn’t for the life of me, not realizing my one wheel was in the air! And to add to my sticky sish-A-wasshion, in my panic I unbelted my seatbelt and could not get it back on because it locked up!

Watching the video doesn’t give the viewer nearly as good perspective on the angle I went down nearly as well as the stills do. Where I went over, down the hill I would say was a distance of 30-40 feet to bottom, and although in theory in a better angle one could possibly have driven down and over to the other side and back on the trail, it was my misfortune being in that spot, as heavy of a load I keep in the bed, that I am close to rolling over had the front wheels moved just the wrong way.

Sunny, I can’t thank you enough for being calm and thus keeping me calm! And formulating the extrication! The truck with a winch got behind me and also was anchored by HulkSmash as it pulled me out, and Jason’s truck was tied into my slider up front to anchor me so as I got pulled out the front wouldn’t slide out any further.
This was a “typical” part of a trail that wasn’t even technical, so don’t let my mishap make you think our runs are unsafe! This could happen on any “easy” trail with any experience level, I just paid the price to remind anyone off-roading to just pay attention always!! And know your trail buddies and be prepared and equipped for anything!

    Here it is...

Not always! Up until that time I actually couldn't listen to that song, gets me so emotional. A lot of their stuff is too emotional; need to be in a certain mood for it, one I haven't been in for a while...
