If I still have the truck near 36k miles or 3 years, I will start shopping warranty extensions. You can always add them and usually for a lot less, later in the life of the truck so long as you do not go beyond the factory "bumper to bumper" warranty period. I change vehicles often so it wont surprise me to be upgrading before the warranty expires or shortly thereafter. Got a killer deal on this one so it should be decent trade in the next 3 to 5 years.

That's good. The deal makes up for the potential repair cost - even if you have to pay for some repairs, you might still be ahead.
The guys here at work have purchased Lifetime Bumper-to-bumper warranties for their RAMs. I think it is about $4,000. They use their trucks for work and put about 40,000 miles a year on them, so it adds up quick. Every time their trucks get towed in, they say " I am glad I have that warranty". They are getting their money's worth out of it.

I haven’t checked, but I thought the lifetime power train warranty only applied to gasoline powered trucks.

    Is this a new thing?

I don't know the specifics re. diesel or gas. It is however a bumper to bumper warranty, not just power train. Both guys that I referred to have gas trucks (Power Wagons)

I had one of those Titan XDs with the 5.0. It was deleted with Icons, and a Titan 50 gallon tank. Overall it was a great truck (just a crappy turbo). I'm a diesel mechanic for the Coast Guard, so I'm more than comfortable working on my own truck. That said, I heard the turbo going out and was having issues that made it apparent. When I called the dealership to order a new turbo it was on national backorder. I got rid of it and got the Tundra. Best decision I've made.

So now I have a Tundra and a 2002 Jetta TDI. The TDI just had a new turbo, injectors and tune done. She's much more fun now.

That would make sense then. Power wagons are usually pretty reliable. Strange.

If there was a lifetime bumper to bumper for diesels, all hotshots would use Rams. It would be the obvious choice.

07 Duramax, right before they added all the emission crap. 14-15 city, 18 -22 highway. 174,000 miles and just love it to death, thought about selling but it's worth to me than $$$$$$$$$.

19 Tundra, my Cadillac, roomy, good ride, lots of amenities and I average 20+ on the highway.

I truly have the best of both worlds..

Recent quotes from these two guys:
Dave: "F$%#ing piece of f#%en shiiitt. I should have bough a Tundra. Your truck is nice and I wouldn't need the warranty. F$%ck!" (Dave finally gets the no warranty needed on a Toyota)
Kurt (on the phone with the dealer after truck is in the shop for 2 weeks): "I don't want you to rebuild my whole damn truck. Why can't you get it done so I can get my truck back. It's the 3rd time this year that you had to work on it and every time you have it for more than a week...."

Had a 2002 jetta TDI. Drove nice, comfy, amazing on fuel but a complete pile of shit otherwise. There was always something wrong with it.
Will never own another diesel as long as i live.

I wonder if it's because the Jettas are assembled in Mexico? I had 2 Passat TDIs and both were awesome cars, until VW bought my last one back from us because of the Dieselgate scandal. Just couldn't beat 50-53mpg and bigger than an Accord
