That’s a good idea with ratchet strap. Why didn’t I think of that

I just have a policy of getting more door every time I get a new truck.

89 Silverado extended cab with no back door.
2003 Silverado extended cab with little doors that opened backwards.
2011 Tundra double cab with medium size doors.
2017 Tundra CM with full size doors.

My '94 Chevy Crew Cab was exactly that. It was great when my kids were young. We could comfortably carry six people and carry plenty of luggage and toys, even bicycles, in the back. The long wheelbase made it very nice to drive on the highway. It gave a comfortable ride even though it was a 1 ton because of the length. The negatives were a huge turning radius and it could not fit in a parking garage because of the length.

I am not comparing Chevy to Toyota, just saying that a full size crew cab has some advantages.

Been there and it sucks. The worst part is that within the last few years I now need to drag the yak and the pond hopper up the ramp to the flat areas:rofl:. I hate the scratches but I got embarrassed when I dropped it twice and people were around. Humbling experience due to age and aches.

Right? Lol. If I can get the bow to stay on the bed without rolling off, I have no problem getting the stern lifted to shove it in the bed.

FYI in case it isn't obvious, the BSM option means you lose your rear bumper as well as any option of ever adding a funtional aftermarket one. I ended up with the system for similar reasons (necessary evil in order to get the other options I wanted), but didn't realize how it actually worked. (I thought yhe sensors were located in the side mirrors.) Turns out the "bumper" ends are just plastic shells covering expensive radar equipment, with no actual structure or protective qualities whatsoever. Until they recalled the first batch to replace the plastic supports with thin sheetmetal, you couldn't even stand on it without breaking it. No exageration. Imagine - a "truck" with no sacrificial bumper that you can push into a snow bank, scrape on rocks or any of the other things that bumpers are designed for. Blows my mind.

Well what people forget is that if you want to sleep in the back of the truck on a regular basis and you happen to be between about 5'-8" and 6'-6" tall, that missing foot is the only one that matters. Hauling limitations are a big inconvenience, but mostly just that.

I bought a crewmax after raising kids for 19 years with an 6.5'-bed, access cab, first gen tundra. I couldn't wait to get the extra cab space, even though the kids now drive themselves. As it turns out, I now curse the teeny bed on an almost daily basis, and end up using the old truck for hauling. On top of that, I've even had to use it a couple of times when I needed to fit 6 people, because the old front bench is still superior to the damn center console/ bucket seat configuration.

Still, I wouldn't give up the big cab and roll-down window for anything. I'm going to eventually do the stretch (except to 6.5 instead of 8 like the one above.) That'll be the perfect truck and, even with that cost, still a bargain compared to some other brands.

I will say that I have "Roll Down Window" envy. It's like peeing at a football game and you know you're not that bad, but the dude next to you is almost plunging the trough. Just makes you want to go have another beer and ponder life.

I got a crewmax with a sunroof even though I didn't want it because all they've done in the past is contribute to a sunburn on my head. A buddy opened it the other day then I got the bright idea to drop that back glass and side windows and it was like rolling in a jeep. The wind doesnt beat me up like it normally does with just the windows down. It's pretty free flowing now. I like it.

We love our DC, I've hauled 8 foot lumber without it hanging over the side or back even with the tailgate closed.
We've also had a large friend of ours ride comfortably in the back seat, I'm just happy to own the Tundra we have, as far as I'm concerned it's the hotrod I had on my bucket list that I wasn't sure I'd ever see, it's not a Mustang GT but it is amazingly fast for what it is and it will provide 4 wheel drive when I need it. The only complaint I have is not having the extra money to get aftermarket bumpers, wife presently doesn't think we need them but if I can sell a couple of the old vehicles we have around here, I might be able to get the bumpers. Other than that, it's just nice to own a Tundra, no matter what style it is, it's really up to the individual what they need. What I really wanted was a pickup with an 8 foot bed, which around these parts is getting harder to come by on the other hand, at 76+ years, I'm not sure I really need a bed that long, I'm not so sure I have the strength or energy to fill a bed any bigger that what the Tundra has and if I need more room I'll borrow the neighbors' trailer.

^^ yup ^^ Took me a while to figure it out too, but you've gotta have both open at the same time. Quieter and less turbulent than either one alone, and so pleasant.

I traded my 16 Mustang GT for my Tundra a week ago and they're both animals in their own right. It's a different experience and each can be enjoyed without feeling like you're missing out on anything.

the Crewmax can keep your mother - wife - and mother in law out of your ear when on a long trip. It provides enough space so that you can drive and think comfortable without hearing them share every detail og what ever it is on their tablets while traveling

Sorry for the slow reply. The rear window does seem to rattle when it's down - but only on rough roads such as dirt washboards. I haven't investigated to figure out the mechanics of the operator/track but what's weird is that, after a situation like that, it will actually rattle for a brief period even after it's rolled back up. So I only drive with it rolled-down on relatively smooth, paved roads, to avoid risking any damage - and in those scenarios it's fine. Plus, on rough roads I'm usually going slower to the point where it's not really an issue having just the sunroof and/or windows open. The magic of the sunroof + rear window occurs at highway speeds, where you can have a nice, subtle, fresh breeze without the noise or turbulence. Dust and exhaust not being sucked-in through the rear window is just a bonus.

Last truck was a 99 F150. Slept in back with a canopy for 18 years. Got too old for that nonsense, and got a pop up hardside Aliner for camping. Got the 18 Tundra limited new. My wife will actually go camping again. I like the extra space the CM has for secure camping gear and guaranteed weather protection, as I have a tonneau cover now. We love the CM vs the old xtracab F150.

I can fit my 8.5 ft fishing pole inside the CM, inside the cab...FB24ADD9-D42E-4514-9037-9DBBEF8C4ED3.jpg

The back window on mine rattles when it's up and stops when it's down lol. I'm taking it to the dealer Tuesday to install paint protection film and will ask them to fix it then.

I was at the dealership looking at leftover 2019s. An SR5 has everything I want and need but since they only had Platinums left, that's what I was checking out. After running the numbers, even with $10k off, the Platinum is still $10k more than an SR5, so I told the salesman no thanks. Then he said they have one SR5 SX left but it's a DC.

The wife and I are thinking about having kids in the next couple years and our current plan is to have two about 2 years apart. So my long winded, roundabout question is: does anyone have any experience putting two car seats in the back of a DC? Can it be done with relative comfort and ease? Can it be done at all or do I tell the salesman I'll have to wait for the 2020s to roll in? Thanks.

Never had a dc, but I've heard others say it's not an issue. Just go sit in the back. Still plenty of room back there, just CM has an additional foot of room is all.
