Have only had my RW for couple of years, just ordered new set of Bfg ko2’s, Do the beadlocks need to be taken off before the shop removes old tires and install new?

to update, the tire shop I went to was able to mount the tires with the bead locks on. All he had to do was set the tire tool to deeper/wider depth and was able t9 mount the wheels in no time flat. I’ll use the same shop next time as he lets you in the back to watch him do the work

Don't have to, but there's a chance the rings could be damaged by the mounting machine.

If they've never been removed before, be prepared for a fight. I broke 18 torx bits taking mine off, and stripped out 12 of the bolts and had to drill them out.

Where did you find replacement ones? I just picked up some RW wheels and they are missing 3 of them.

Yes I would recommend removing them.

It is a pain in the butt mounting tires on RW wheels as well as OE Ford Raptor wheels with the rings in place.

As a tire shop employee, would it make it easier on you if the customer just removed them for you? I ask because some tires for mine are in my future.

    Yes. Definitely.

We generally call Raptors “Bay Killers” because of how much attention it takes a 4 man team to swap a set of tires.
That same 4 man team can put a set of tires on, say, a Chevy 1500 in 20 mins. A Raptor with Oe wheels: 45mins to 1 hour.
RW’s aren’t as common but they require the same method.

Good to know. I have to remove mine anyway to paint or plastidip them, so I'll just leave them off for when I buy new tires.

Yes, sorry I didn't get around to responding earlier. They are expensive. I think I may have seen them on Amazon for $30 for 12, but that's been a while, and I don't remember if they were OEM quality.

Ok, I removed mine. I have an appointment to get everything installed wednesday afternoon. I was going to just reinstall the rings once I got the truck home, but then I got to thinking about the balancing they will do at the shop. Should I take the rings in and see if they put them back on before they balance the wheels? Should I tell them to install the rings before balancing?

Are these bolts special or something? Maybe look at Fastenal or something for bulk purchases.

I just did a thread on proper bead lock mounting. Obviously these are fake, but a lot of the same issues can be present like the corroded bolts.

Yes, I would bring them with you.
In all honesty I doubt they would throw off a balance by much but they could.

I heard that corporate did a study a while back where they purposely added weight to a wheel/ tire to make it out of balance. They only noticed vibrations once the wheel and tire were 1.75oz out of balance.

I left mine off when i had new tires installed a couple weeks ago, and just put them back on last week. i haven't noticed any changes in ride quality since doing that.
