a couple of years ago, I had the chance to pick up a new Savage Long Range Hunter for around 600 bucks. I needed something for Hogs and the price was just too good to pass up.

This was when I was living in Missouri, there's not a lot of ranges or space to shoot past 200 yards, so that's where I left things.

This past weekend, in WA state, I had a chance to take the rifle out to a real range. I zero'd at 200, no problems, the thing drives tacks. I dialed in my dope to 300, right on target. out to 550...first shot was 2 inches high, dial it in. consistent hits. out to 720, dial it in and the first shot was about 1 foot high. dial it in and it's on target, hitting a 1ft by 1ft gong. shot after shot the grouping was always on the bottom right 1/4, never a miss. Hand it off to my 16 yo son. first shot, hit. then hit...hit...hit.

I was going to reach out to 1000 but ran out of time.

I'm still shocked at this thing. Doods were shooting next to us with much nicer (more expensive) equipment and were struggling at that range. I could sense the anger directed at me.

If anyone needs a REALLY GOOD affordable rifle, that thing is it.

    BTW, Scope:
Sightron SIII SS 6-24x50mm Long Range MOA Reticle
    Ammo:
Hornady 6.5 creedmoor 140gr eld match

I have a Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmor, topped with Vortex optics. I have always wanted to test how far I could go out at the range. Maybe now once my deer hunt is over I will head out to the range to try and reach out to 1,000. Thanks for the confidence boost!

I have a friend with Savage 10 GRS in 6.5 creed. It's an amazingly accurate rife. I have shot it out to 1000 yards. It was way easier than I thought it was going to be. We were able to get it dialed in and smacking steel with little effort. I just picked up a Bergara B14 Hunter in 6.5 Creedmore. I am excited to stretch the legs on it and see what it can do.

I too have an American 6.5 in the predator ceracoated finish topped with a Vortex Diamond back. Have shot it out to 300 with ELD match, does excellent. Leave on Oct. 22 to Montana for a mule deer hunt.
