My electrical system went downhill fast. I noticed that starting the truck the last several times that turning the engine over was slightly weak as if the battery was not fully charged. After work and driving away, I noticed my dashboard voltmeter registered in the negative and was going lower. My thought was either the alternator is going out or the battery connection is poor. I installed a new battery last week. I parked and turned off the truck. I noticed that the positive terminal was slightly loose. I tightened it and needed a jump. After being jumped, I drove to a near gas station. As I drove, the voltmeter decreased rather than showing a system charging. I made it to the station and kept the engine running. Voltage fell and the radio stopped, then the dash clock flashed then was off. The dash warning lights flickered. When I tried to turn on the head lights the engine stopped. Any ideas?

Thanks for replying. 138k miles. Last Friday, I had the Toyota dealership change the transmission fluid. About the next day, I noticed hearing a low pitched whine coming somewhere from the engine. Maybe the alternator broke down and making noise? (don't know). After being jumped, I noticed the dash lights brighten somewhat when I rev the engine. Makes me think that some charge could be coming from the alt. Last time I had an alt issue was many years ago and thus a much less sophisticated car.

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
Alternator for sure. Take it to a auto parts store and they will check for free.
