Wheel bearing help.......

So I have a 2013 with 84,000 miles on it. I have a pretty good wobble in the front end when you apply the brakes at any speed above 40-45 or so. When you apply them at say 65, the steering wheel shakes side to side. If you let off the brakes, it drastically lessens, then starts again when you apply them again. I was leaning towards a warped rotor. So I pulled the brakes and rotors off today and was turning the hub. I could hear a clicking while turning it. I pulled the hub out and turned it again but didn't hear it. I put it back in and you could hear it again. There was a little amount of oil in the spindle when I pulled it out...I assume that is normal. I also have a high pitch metal on metal squeak that I haven't been able to locate. Could it be the bearing when it has a load and weight on it. There is no play at all that I can see. The background pop is just my floor jack creeping buy you can hear the clicking.

From what I've seen in the past, the wheel bearing would have movement if it was bad. You probably have wrapped rotors

 

The wheel bearing doesn't have to have visible play to be ready for replacement.

 

Yep, warped rotors.

A front wheel bearing sound will change when you turn right or left and it will be noticed regardless if you are applying the brakes or not.

 

What do you guys think about the clicking noise in the video? I did borrow a runout gauge from a coworker and i have a micrometer as well.

 

Yeah, you are gonna need a new bearing assembly.

With that said, replaced mine with Amazon assemblies and they have been fine for 50 k.

 

Looks like Sparks has them for about $200 per side. I will try to get a video of the steering wheel as well.

 

Depending how long this shake has been present, make sure to check the tie rod ends as well.

Warped rotors can wear out tie rod ends if you go too long.

 

2011 Sr5 /Stock. Back in the day, we used to have rotors turned unless they were so badly warped they could not be turned far enough to bring them back into spec. Since I have a shimmy when braking, I was thinking of having the rotors turned though I want to ask if that is not being done any more as I don´t see anyone recommending that as an option.

Not many places turn rotors these days.

I just bought rotors and pads last month.

My shimmy is gone.

How do they compare to OEM? I currently have the Z36 Powerstop slotted and drilled and a pretty good shimmy in the steering wheel when i brake at anything over 50 mph. They have been on for about 6 years.

 

I'm not a racer, I have no idea.

I step on the brake pedal and the truck stops. Seems normal to me.

I think I have the same problem. I had a speed wobble around 50 to 60 mph. When I applied the brakes the front end would shake with steering wheel moving back and forth. I thought I had warped rotors. I replaced them with new after market rotors. The braking improved but it still would shake when I applied the brakes at 45 mph. I'm beginning to get frustrated because it's been one thing after another. I just had an alignment and it drives better but still had the shakes when stopping at about 45.

 

I never buy aftermarket rotors. There's no guarantee they will be balanced and warped out of the box.

 

I had this same issue, I recently replaced both front rotors, brake pads, and all 5 lugs and studs on the front passenger side, since one lugnut kept getting lost, I quickly figured out that all 5 studs were damaged and may have contributed to the wobble. Additionally I would issue caution on aftermarket rotors. I purchased mine at Pep Boys long ago due to circumstances, and this is the end result on to the passenger rear side caliper.
