Looks reasonable, $800 is a lot to spend IMHO. You could get a top of the line, dedicated amp for less.
Adding an amp to the stock speakers has variable benefit. Most factory speakers (even on upgraded systems e.g. JBLs) are very poor.
Small magnets, paper or plastic cones, etc.

I'd save your $800 and put it elsewhere.

You could get a new headunit for $299 that enables CarPlay and Android Auto and retains all steering wheel controls.

I just got this unit today. The install directions kinda suck. I just emailed Alpine to ask if they have any better instructions or maybe even a video. Also ordered some new Alpine R series speakers for front and rear doors, as well as some Alpine tweeters for the dash corners. Eventually will upgrade the head unit to some sort of Alpine as well.

Has anyone installed this unit that may be able to help out with some of the wiring? I just dont want to end up looking like a monkey f...ing a football when I try installing this over the weekend......lol

There is a youtube video for the 4Runner from alpine. That may be useful.

Going to tackle it this sunday after work. Doesn't look too bad. Just time consuming.

Thanks. Sounds so much better. Can't wait to install my Alpine dash tweeters and Alpine door speakers this weekend.

It was just a pain running the wires. In the glove box there is a small access panel that you can take off which will help you route the wires down and through the passenger side carpet. Other than that, it's really just time consuming.

Hey did you upgrade the head unit as well. If not does the system sound good with just the Toyota head unit.

I did not upgrade the head unit yet, but it is on my list. Stereo sounds better, CDs sound great. Head unit upgrade is a must because I'm getting a small thump after I turn off my ignition. I even re-grounded it, but I heard that Alpines do that if you are still using the factory head unit. I just dont know which Alpine head unit to go with that will give me all the same features, because I still like listening to my CDs.

So this adds a sub under the seat and an amp that boosts the factory speakers?

It's a sub/amp combo that mounts under the passenger seat where the factory POS one is. I replaced all the door speakers and dash tweeters with Alpines as well.

Does it add power to factory door speaker locations though?

I upgraded my factory door speakers with Alpine R series. So, all in all it is louder and crisper sounding. I will upgrade the head unit, but only if I can find an Alpine that will work with bluetooth, nav, xm, steering wheel controls, and play my cd's......I'm old school.

TSS Off Road package. Apparently it's a Gulf Region thing. Who knew?
I’m attempting this install right now. The factory amp bypass t-harness has a yellow wire that the written directions say to connect to main wiring harness. But the wiring diagram says to connect the cable from the battery into the main wiring harness.

Crutchfield tech said he’d bet the wires from the two harnesses get connected.

Great... so I’ve wrestled with running a wire through the firewall for nothing?

    Thanks for any help!

What I did was run the power/battery cable through the fire wall to the battery. Hooked everything up the way the directions say, but couldn't find where to connect that yellow wire, since everything had a spot but that. So I left it alone.

Well, I went the other way. Hooked up to the wire from the factory amp bypass harness. Just wrapped up the wire that I routed through the firewall and tucked it out if the way. I think I’ll call Alpine next week to see what they say.

Now that you have this system installed, have you upgraded the HU and could you tell me which door speakers you went with...did you need adapters and wiring plugs?

All in all would you say a worthwhile upgrade? At the end of the day this is rather pricey for what you are really getting other than it is "supposed" to be plug and play.

    Thanks...

Don't have that truck anymore, but when I did the amp/sub combo I also replaced the door speakers and dash corners with Alpine R series and kept the stock head unit. Tons of bass with the ability to adjust with the included knob. I got mine for around 500 because my friend buys a ton off Amazon and was able to get a discount.
