Hey guys, I was at the gym yesterday and a guy walked up asking if I had the black truck out front (figured he wanted to chat for a bit). Ends up his Mustang's parking brake went out and it rolled back into my front bumper leaving a dent in the corner (pic attached).

I had a friend's shop check it out and they're advising it can't be popped out and I need a new bumper at $450.

I thought this corner piece could individually be replaced, is that right? I feel bad for the guy, wasn't his fault and he was up front about it, so trying to get this fixed as reasonably as possible. Or is the shop correct in that the entire bumper needs replaced?

    Thanks for the help.

The bumper end is its own piece so it should not need the entire bumper. I replaced my bumper ends with color match (as have a lot of other people) and it's its own piece.

I'm sorry this happened, but good on mustang guy for coming to you! The end caps can be replaced individually. Look on craigslist or something, I'm sure you can find one for a decent price. Or you can get color matched bumpershellz and just cover that sucker up. Kill two birds with one stone.

    ^this!
Bumpershellz from @EC1 would cover right over that dent and you'll never see it, and for about the same price (maybe less) than a new chrome bumper end you'll have color matched, black, or bedliner end caps.

Those chrome bumper ends are a dime a dozen on Ebay or craigslist etc.

craigslist would be a place to start for bumper ends.

Good for him on doing the right thing. I literally see this everyday, but with the driver high tailing it out of there.

what ever you do, don't go through your insurance . I lightly scraped a parked car bumper in a private parking lot and caused a light scratch , a light paint transfer to my car, exchanged info with the driver and really expected it to be at best 1000.00 which I would have gladly paid. Estimate was for 2700.00 !!!!! I said screw that just use your Insurance to the person. Turned out to be the wrong thing . Now on driving record involved in an accident... it was a parked car ... and my Insurance spanked me an extra 1000 bks for renewal. Plus time to renew my travel trailer insurance and that effected it also. Thieves

I actually co-own an insurance brokerage, I know that aspect of things very well! It's always best to settle little things like this on the side. If we filed this through his property damage (which is free to use), he'd show an at-fault accident on his record for 3-5 years and it would cause a rate increase to him the entire time. His honesty doesn't deserve that, trying my best to keep this as cheap as possible for him.

The only issue with the bumpershellz is that it will dimple out around the parking sensors - looks o_O IMO.

It is separate and easily replaced as others said. Just make sure the brackets behind it aren’t bent. If he hit it hard enough to dent chrome like that, chances are the whole assembly is pushed back. A woman love tapped my front driver end cap while parked - no damage to cap but it actually pushed the bumper assembly back 1/2 inch.

I'm pretty sure that's totaled. Best bet is to look for a new truck.

Go underneath and do some measuring for L vs R frame-to-bumper congruency, make sure that side isn’t pushed in.

The chrome bumper end has to come off anyway, you’ll have access to both. Might as well get a used right one, get a shop to prep and powder coat a color match on both.

I always look on the bright side of modding.

Joking aside, good on him for letting you know his daughters car rolled into your truck.

Looks like good advice above. For five hundred bucks I may be looking to upgrade my bumper personally (depending on sensor considerations and such).

There should be tons of those bumper caps available if you want chrome. A lot of people swap them for black or color matched. I'm sure someone here could hook you up, or check ebay. If you wanna go chrome I dont see this costing over $100 to fix. And all I can say is WOW i can not believe that guy stepped up and took fault for this, not a lot of people like him left in the world, I'd try to fix it as cheap as possible just because he was honest.

Craigslist is your friend. I always see several on Denver Craigslist. Cheap too. Seems lots of folks lose the chrome....

Yea i see this a good news. You have the perfect reason to get rid of the chrome and go with color matched! lol

Sorry it happened though. Could have been much worse.

I'm looking at the reflection in the gray plastic next to the end cap & the reflection appears to be warped matching the curve of the dimple. To me the picture shows the edge of the center section is dented as well - but since it's behind plastic I would guess you could hammer that out as it appears slight - if there isn't an attachment bracket back there. I'd bet you do need at least an end cap, a bracket, & the center section knocked straight.

But me - I'd take some cash, put it in the O.R. bumper fund & drive it like that until you one day buy a properly strong steel bumper.

bout year and a half ago I hit a deer on the way to work and destroyed most of the front bumper. Insurance quoted 2650$ to fix. I decided that a aftermarket bumper and winch were ALOT cheaper than dealing with the insurance company
