    Hey Guys,

This is just to verify. I am having 4.88s and a Limited Slip installed next week and just want to ask a question. Just to re-cap I have a 2019 Tundra Crew Max Sport, 4 inch lift, 35 inch tires.

Should I expect to see any warning lights (traction control) to come on after the install? The shop wasn't exactly concerned about them but said it is a possibility.

    Thanks again!

On my 2019 it came with an LSD already, isn’t it just a given if you regear they are going to have to go back with the LSD or it will cause computer troubles??

Are you certain you have an LSD? Did Toyota start offering this as an option? I believe OP is referring to a proper clutch driven LSD and not the trickery ALSD Toyota pulls off with the ABS.

You should not get any codes from the gear swap.

All 2nd and 3rd gen tundras have a simulated electronic limited slip by applying the brakes.

Don't want to jack thread but,,, of course I have the switch, and when the diff kicks in you always hear the clunk and then both tires work instead of just one.

I am having a real limited slip installed. My previous truck a 2010 Tundra Rock Warrior the Auto LSD stopped working around 75k miles and became a single tire fryer. I wanted to fix that weak spot while I am having the gears done.

Now....back to the question. Should I expect to see any dash lights when the truck is done? Will the computer be happy seeing the new gears or will it freak? I have friends with Jeeps that have gone into limp mode after the change and needed the computers to be flashed to fix them.

I know several tundra owners that have the 488 gears, none have mentioned that they had dash lights come on.
You may need the Hypertech Speedo calibrator to correct the speedometer and odometer.

My Speedometer is off already, it reads about 3 MPH slow at 60. I was thinking of waiting to see it the gearing changes that at all.

I suppose it really depends if the gear table is linked to the wheel speed sensors in the computer logic. It may see a lower wheel speed at higher RPM. Not really sure tho to be honest.

That would be cool if it works cause I am assuming it gets rid of the heavy clunk, having something that is a much smoother transition so it doesn’t sound like the rear-end is falling off? Let us know.?

What clunk are you talking about? I have had the "LSD" from Toyota and a real Auburn LSD for the last several years. Neither of them clunked. The only differential i have ever heard clunk is the ARB air lockers and the tacoma TRD with selectable lockers.

I hated the clunking sound. Especially when it snowed and I had to put it in 4wd just to get out of my neighborhood...so I didn't have to hear it.

For me, when the rear tire would spin and the LSD would try to engage but wouldn't and it would chatter (heavily...like a clunk).

ahh i think yall are talking about the noise from the ABS whenever the ALSD is kicking in. Not a single clunk, but multiple clunks as the ALSD is engaging, right?

It sounded like the rear end but what ever it was/is I am assuming that putting in a true LSD that would do away with the noise,,,, brakes, rear end what ever?? because it does away with anything electronic? from what I read.

correct, my Auburn puts 2 black patches down with equal power to the tires. Computer doesnt sense unequal or loss of traction to one wheel so the ALSD doesnt try anything

Yes, what I am describing sounded like a slow impact wrench.

There was another noise that was rare. It was a loud clunk and felt like I had been rear ended. I had to be going about 5 to 10 mph on an incline.

Your speedometer should be matched up pretty close looking at the gear ratio chart. Using a recalibration tool will help you fine tune (helps with shift points).

Just to be clear, the 1st gen Tundra trucks had a Limited Slip Differential option. Since then the only option is an electronic sensing, rear brake actuating, traction control system. It actually works pretty good for ice, wet conditions. Off-road is a different story.

Here is a quick video of how the Tundra did against all other 1/2 ton competitors.

Because the truck is so new. Does Hypertech or another vendor make a speedometer calibrator?

Will I need to avoid warning lights or just to adjust the speedometer?

Sorry, will I need the in-line calibrator to avoid warning lights or to only adjust the speedometer?

Just picked up my 2018 lastnight after getting 4.88s. I'm currently on 35s, 3" lift.

Man, the truck seems much happier, drives close to stock now. I didn't get any warning lights.

Thank you for letting me know. I figure if the truck seems happy and my speedometer is close...that's all that I will do.

I couldn't help but notice you folks were talking about LSD on the tundra. I have a 2015 tundra with that button. When I push it, the little light comes on in the display but I don't have a clue what it does. Anyone care to enlighten me on it's use? All advice/info is greatly appreciated.
