August 3rd is National Ernie Pyle Day.

I was at a little library in Southwest Harbor Maine and found a book in the for sale section. My daughter pointed out an old looking book and said I may like it. For $1.00 I took home what looked like a book written about WWII.

I started reading “Brave Men” by Ernie Pyle. It’s a fascinating first hand account about a journalist’s journey amount many different outfits during WWII, from the air force and the guys who did dive bombing raids to engineers who had to rebuild roads and bridges. I’m half way through it but had to find out more about the author. Wikipedia has a good bit of information on a man who literally gave his life to bring these very real accounts of the men who participated in unbelievable conditions. Ernie wasn’t afraid to sleep where they slept, eat what they ate and take cover along with them.

I highly recommend reading some of his material (even though I haven’t even finished my first book), but also wanted to let everyone know about the National Day honoring Mr. Pyle.
