I would like to add something to my doors to protect them from other folks smacking them and creating dings. Anyone got any suggestions?

Running boards or sliders that stick way out from the body is the best defense. You could get clear paint protection film installed, that's pretty expensive though.

Running boards , tonneau cover, short antenna, Solo Mach 40 side exit before rear wheel.
My RB 20 running boards have taken a couple hits in parking lots. Doors are perfect but I imagine whoever carelessly opened there door into my running boards has a nice war wound.

    true true
I park at furthest corners. But I do feel weird parking a "Truck" like its a Ferrari. It should be able to take hits.
Problem is everyone else also thinks that and smacks my truck. California has no respect for trucks at all.

This is what I do. Try to get end parking spots too so I can move as far from the other spot and only have a car on one side. I also try not to ever park next to a car on a hill where when people open their door it swings downhill into your vehicle.

I just tell everyone that it's an opportunity for me to exercise, and that I'll happily drop you off at the entrance and meet you inside.

The 4runner guys call it "wilderness parking" which I thought was kinda funny.

You shouldn't feel weird. Property is property, and unfortunately many people don't respect that.

I've also gotten friendly with the body shop manager and PDR guy at my dealership. They've even removed a couple at no charge, since they know I'll be back......

Agreed. Californians are terrible. Just got my first door ding from one. A coworker no less. Running boards and parking far didn't help. His Subaru has doors that stick out further towards the top.

Yaesh... I recommend Isreal Military Industry's Desert Eagle as designed by the wholesome folks at Magnum Research Industry chambered for .44 Magnum... effective for settling both interpersonal and ship-to-ship quarrels with an effectiveness of which Theodore Roosevelt himself would beam upon with fatherly approval.

X2 on this. Running boards make it damned near impossible to get door dings, especially with a lift. The only thing that can hit my doors are something that sits higher than mine does. Not a single door ding on my two Tundras, or the two Sequoias my wife has had.

so my OEM side step is not enough ? It has to be a running board ?
How much of a lift do I need not to get dings.

Also folks should probably not talk about hurting other folks on this here forum ;)

Just not a good idea. Not to mention most have never actually seen that in real life.

Don't invest in a lift as a way for dent prevention, unless you really want a lift anyway. I know I can't lift my truck if I wanna keep parking in my garage. If your running boards stick out far enough that will help, if you are serious and wanna spend money to prevent dings then order up some custom sliders that stick or farther than normal.

Didn’t realize you had side steps already. A Scion dinged you? I’d think that even without a lift the door would’ve hit the step and not the paint. My old Tundra has no lift, and still sits significantly higher than cars do.
Other than that, I don’t really know what else can prevent it. You could put trim down the sides I guess.
