Hey guys. Just checking to see what you all paid to have your truck ceramic coated or have a full PPF installed.. PPF stands for Paint Protection Film for those who are unaware. Kind of like a clear bra but for the whole car.

Guy here quoted 1000$ for the opticoat pro+. Lasts for 7 years and it's a pretty good deal but I decided I'd rather do the cheap Amazon 2 year one myself or just use plain wax and sealant.

Paint protection film guy quoted just the part of the front bumper area and tiny parts of the hood and fender for 1000~ I feel like both of these services are overpriced and have come to terms with my voodoo blue tundra taking a few rock chips and scratches as it is a offloading truck and that's exactly how I'm going to treat it. Ceramic coating might be worth it but I'll test it out with the 2 year one first.

Heck let's just get the truck repainted if you are dropping a grand or two on ceramic coating or ppf. I think the grand spent on mods is a much better decision. Especially since the ceramic coating won't stop you from dings. And ppfing the entire truck would just cost a fortune.

Same here. Bottle of cquartz uk 3.0 is $70 and can do 2 cars/trucks. Paint correction/prep is about 6 hours by yourself. But of course you need everything to be able to do it. I even used cquartz plastic/wheel coating on the trim and wheels.

    Wash/ironx decon/clay/polish/rewash/top inspection wipe/coating.

Paint correction, Pearl Nano Ceramic, Full Hood + Bumpers, Cups, Edges, and Mirror PPF was $1200

Thanks for the replies.. I'm too anal to do it myself as IMO it would require a full clay/polish detail prior. Truck is too big for my patience as I'm ADHD.

DjSamthrax, was that a discount or something? Great deal.

Ideally I'd like a full PPF over a ceramic coating.

Find someone that does the clearshield on the side. My clearshield and full tint was $700...and near priceless to me!

Anyone do 3M tint all the way around to leave out those nasty UV rays? 15% all around and 70% windshield is what I'm aiming for.

I have 3M color stable 50% on the whole windshield and 35% on the sides. I can see at night just fine and don't have to where sunglasses during most days.

Paid the same for xpel on mine. I bring it to a exotic car dealership that’s does Bugatti’s, Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s. The guy hand cuts every piece instead of stretching 3m film like most dealerships usually do.

Goes to show how "exotic car" owners get ripped off... PPF is $4500-$5000 for my 911.. PASS! Ceramic coat was $1200.. It's a small car with nearly as much glass surface as paint.

I think he said there were 17 or 18 separate cut pieces for our front end. Then the 2 side mirrors. He also put the matte black film on my hood scoop.

Crystalline 3M is pretty expensive for all around tint. I recommend spending 300-400 For mid-highgrade tint and then spending another 200$ on remote start. You will protect the interior by reflecting UV with the tint and then finally you will be comfortable due to being able to remote start your vehicle to get the A/C running.

The back is just smoke/coloring tint added by the manufacturer to increase looks and darkness. It actually serves very little to no UV protection. This is why tint makers have to place aftermarket tint films over the stock rear and rear passenger windows. 18% is usually what is needed to match the fronts to the backs.

About legality here in Georgia, Most/all cops are just happy to see that your front is less dark than your sides. Just get the lighter tint on the windshield and you should be fine.

I've noticed Tint helps a bunch with the comfort of the cabin during a sunny drive. A/c seems to need to work a lot less hard to achieve temperature. It didn't help much with max cabin temperature when it sits off in the sun.

I had mine tinted with ceramic, 70% windshield and 20% on all the rest. All said and done it was north of 500 bucks. I noticed a huge difference when driving with the a/c running, it takes nothing to keep the cabin cool. When the truck just sits in the parking lot not so much of a difference, once the cab is heated up it’s heated up. A good sun shade also helps reflect the sun.
I talked with the guy about doing the X-Pel on the front end, quoted 1200. I weighed my options and decided I would just deal with the gravel nicks. I don’t tailgate and kinda feel like that is a big part of front end damage.
I did however do the lower part of the doors with X-Pel myself and have about 200 in it. I will do that on any vehicle I buy from here on.

    Digging up an old thread......

If I am applying ceramic coating to a new truck, what kind of prep should I be doing. I have had the truck a little over a month, have only driven it about 200 miles and is in my garage when not being driven.

Got a quote for about $1500 for a professional job. I have read about the Cquartz UK 3.0 and it does not sound like too hard of a job.

You need to wash, clay, iron / fallout remover, polish, ipa wipe down, then coat. Applying the ceramic coating is the easy part. Its all the prep work that is time consuming. Just like a paint job, sure you can get a cheap paint job but if the prep work is crappy, the paint job will be crappy also. Whatever imperfections are in the paint when you coat it, will be there for years.

If you've done the professional ceramic coat, which is supposed to be good for 5-7 years then what happens after that? If you're planning to keep the vehicle much longer than that are there implications from having done this?

Have it redone. My customers never keep their vehicles that long so every year or two they get ahold of me to coat their new vehicle.

Reviving an old thread here in anticipation of Spring.

Just acquired a new('ish) Sequoia - 2021 with very few miles - and am looking for a place to have ceramic protection done properly. Am new to the area and don't know the car community. Can anyone recommend a person/shop in the (far) Western suburbs of Chicago?
