Was looking at tonneau covers and the dude at the sales place said out here in southern California the soft ones get killed by the sun. He recommended a hard tonneau as a result. Never heard this before, so wanted to ask if any of you in the area had this proble .

Direct sun or UV on any vinyl or fabric is going to degrade it, shorten its life and weather it at minimum. If garage kept or under cover it will last much longer.

    Not nearly enough room here!
If in doubt about the sun being TOO much for your soft cover, you could try keeping it coated with Aerospace 303. It helps prevent sun-damage:thumbsup:

Probably be much happier with something like this in the long run. Most softies should last 3-5 years....

I have a Tyger that came with the truck when I purchased it. The cover is 11 years old and is still very nice. Pretty much water proof, just need to make sure you get it centered correctly when putting it on.

This is what I do ^^^. The amount of sun we get here in northern Vermont can't be compared to SoCal sun though.
