Help with keyless entry upgrade

Hello all, this is my first Tundra but not my first Toyota. I've had quite a few Cruisers in the past and I recently swapped my 2000 Cruiser for a 2000 Tundra. I hated to see my Land Cruiser go, but the utility of the tundra was needed right now.

I have a 2000 SR5 with power windows & power locks. I'm looking to upgrade to keyless entry, I don't necessarily care about alarm system but auto start would also be awesome up here in the Northeast. I quickly looked through aftermarket units and nothing seems to be Plug and Play for my year. There is a lot of information on the forums about this upgrade but it's really not laid out that I can find what I need.

Does anyone have the part numbers needed to add at a minimum keyless entry to my truck? I have pulled the lower dash off and I do not have the module sitting there like some have found. There is just a plastic block of terminated plugs wrapped in electrical tape bolted to the bracket under the column.

Just looking for some help so that I can search Ebay on the forums if it's even possible or am I chasing the wrong goat?

Hi Bob. Welcome to the forum.

I’m in the same boat as you: I need to install keyless on my Tundra, and I don’t need the alarm function. While I like the functionality of remote start — particularly in the winter — I’m personally not real fond of the idea of hacking into the vital systems of my vehicle.

I’ve installed aftermarket keyless systems in other vehicles, and my 2002 4Runner came with one already installed.
Toyota’s are easy because of the way the system is actuated using a switch on the door. Some other systems require that you add an actuator in the drivers door.

For just the keyless entry function, I think just about any brand will do. It will likely have an alarm function, you just don’t hook it up.

I have two complete systems in my shop waiting to be installed— one was gift, the other was sitting in my dad’s shop waiting to be installed, but he never got around to it.

 

Thanks for the info , let me know how the install goes, I'm still surprised I'm not finding what I need. With the wiring there , it seems like a plug and play.

Here's some info with part #s, etc. for a factory system.

 

I have installed Keyless Entry, Alarm and Remote Start using a $65 aftermarket unit from Avital. The installation is straight forward with 1st Gen since we don’t have a chip in our keys which means no bypass unit needed.

This unit is not plug and play and you have to slice wires.. etc. I installed it within 5 hrs (took me longer than what it should due to back injury - not easy for me to stay bent for long time.)

I had a smart start installed to my remote start so I can unlock from my phone if that helps
