Picked up a buddy and made a quick solo-truck trip up to the top of Coney Flats, up off of Peak-to-Peak highway in Colorado. This was my first trip up the trail, so had my friend as a guide (and instructor as I'm learning). Was a spur of the moment trip, later on Saturday afternoon after most of the rain had come through. We saw strings of jeeps heading back down the highway on our way up from Lyons, so were hoping for lower traffic.

Trail starts at Beaver Reservoir. With the rain, the spillway was running over as we went through. There was one nicely built jeep airing down when we go there. We skipped that step, figuring we could air down if needed (ended up not doing so).

Trail starts out climbing. Rocks and tight trees, at least for a Tundra. All the other vehicles we saw were jeeps and smaller trucks (mostly Tacos). We just did an out and back. Kept is slow and steady as we progressed from smallish rocks to larger. No snow at this point, but plenty of mud holes to go through. Not much for views as you're heading up, but pretty country.

Between large rocks and trees, there's not much room for a full width truck. Found myself either without choice in lines many times (where you could see smaller vehicles could choose more) or choosing to error on the side of the trees. Ended up adding a few Colorado pinstripes to the side of the truck. Also had to pull the mirrors in quite a bit.

Took a couple hours at my slow speed getting to the top, with a few areas where my buddy needed to help spot. Rain started up again about half way to the top, creating some slick rocks. Didn't cause much problem, but not a good feeling when you feel a slip. Payoff for the drive up is the water crossing. Clouds were low and didn't get the full view, but still pretty cool once you're through the water.

Since it was an out and back, we turned around and went through again the other direction. I haven't done the rear diff breather mod yet, so looking to change the diff oil and do that soon...

Coming back proved to be faster, but more difficult in a few places than the way up. Sliders got a work out and payed for themselves. Used them a few times going over rocks and had them save the side of my truck once when we slipped on a wet rock and clanked hard into a large rock. Had to do some serious repainting of them after we got back. Also really liked having the FRAC harness and front camera for more technical sections and going over rises.

Started getting pretty dark as we finished the run. Was glad for the spots and fogs in the new bumper. Tried turning them off and running stock for a minute and it sucked. Would have made things way more interesting to finish.

Finished in the dark with no one else around. Had a blast and learned a lot. I wouldn't run this trail without sliders. Also had one good hit on each of my rear diff skid and passenger rear shock skid. If I'm going to pay for all this armor, at least it's coming in handy.

Needed a good wash the next morning, along with some touch-up paint on the sliders. Some scratches down both sides of the truck and on the mirrors, but nothing serious. A successful evening on the trail.

Great pics and descriptions. Will add this to my "don't run this trail" list

What? This is an approved ColoradoTJ trail for Tundras. I would never send someone where damage occurs....only 10% of the time. :D
