How does front headlight marker bulb come out for replacement?

I'm trying to remove the 168 halogen front marker bulb on my headlights to replace it with a brighter amber LED. I don't see an easy way to pop it out like the other bulbs. Do I have to remove the headlight to get to it? I'd really rather not if possible.

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

bulbs I ordered.

 

Can you see wires going into the headlight housing at that location? Unfamiliar with 1st gens, but the wires should be entering the bulb base which should have "handle" to turn the base one quarter turn or less to remove.

Not trying to be a pain, but how did you learn the bulb number, from the owner manual? The reason I ask is that bulb is more likely the DRL/turn/park light bulb than side marker. Side marker will be located outboard where it is visible from the side.

If you're installing LEDs to brighten your turn signals, you will probably need resistors to replace the resistance in the incandescent filament.

 

The 168 was the bulb that was recommended by someone else on the forum. I guess they aren't side markers, really, they just are amber lights that turn on with the DRL and with the automatic look. I'd just look the look to be consistent. I am using the Diode Dynamics really, which obviates the need for resistors. I'll let you know if I can do a half turn...

 

You don’t have to remove the housing. There’s a plastic extension “tube” that holds the bulb and locks into the back of the housing. Look around and you’ll find it, it’s easier on the passenger side. If you’re still having issues, I can snap a pic at lunch.

since your going led test the bulb before you put the socket back in... they have to have the positive and negative on the right side.

 

Got them in today. Thanks for the information. I had to unbolt the coolant reserve tank on the driver side to get at the bulb extension. But easy replacement once I got them out. The bulbs linked above were the correct fit.
