I’m a fan of kenwood and pioneer. What else did you need to make your HU work? Do you have steering wheel controls?

You should just keep a kenwood headunit with maestro compatibility. And a idatalink maestro RR with the to2 harness. Everything should work plug and play.
Of course you will need a dash kit, antenna adapter, usb/aux adapter and satellite/nav adapters if you want to retain those things.

You can find the maestro rr and to2 harness cheaper than crutchfield if you shop around.
I'm pretty sure you need a to2 harnes and not a to1 harnes cuz you are 3rd gen

I'm getting ready to install a Kenwood DNX696S with my factory JBL amp. Where did you all plug the Maestro gray and white audio RCA cables on the Kenwood? Tweeter Preout, Midrange Preout, or Sub Preout?

Edit: I put it in the Midrange, which was Front Speakers and it worked fine.

You're going to absolutely love the head unit upgrade. Makes a world of difference. I have an older kenwood with wired android auto and it's such an improvement over the stock JBL. The maestro is pretty cool too

I'm running a very simlar unit with GPS. The dnx696s. Works great! Using speakers and JBL Amp from James group buy. No sub at the time.

Ok, someday when I blow the stock speakers I will upgrade them and as I remember I think James might also have a passenger side sub.

What makes the upgraded head unit better? Is it a plug and play type install? I just put the dual sub OEMAudio+ system in my 2016 platinum and love it so far!

Under the speaker grill in the center of the dash should work for you

Do I have to drill a hole to get it up there or are there holes already?

No drilling required. I put mine under the dash to the left of the speaker, there's a flat piece of AC ducting there. Works good so far. Do you have satellite radio?

Holes and gaps already in place for you to use. The speaker grill is held on with friction clips. Pull up on it or when you have the head unit out you can reach in and push up on it.

How do I tell if I have a JBL unit or not? Also, how do I tell if I have the amplifier or not? Want to make sure I order the right harness. I don't think I have the JBL stereo since I do not see labeling on the stereo. But what about finding out how to see if I have the amp or not?

Finally installed the dmx906S. @james@tech12volts sent me everything I needed for the install. I chose to solder my harness together. A lot of wires but pretty straightforward.

Put my gps antenna where @GiantsFanDan suggested. Perfect

Got lazy and installed my mic on the speaker grill lol. I’ll see how road noise is there once I test it on the road BD2F3340-E62F-48B9-BF5D-A20282F9EC55.jpg

Maestro is a must have. So much options. Main reason I got it was for Apple car play though.

Also had an input for my front camera so I removed my FRaC if anyone is interested.

Oh yeah, I also have Tech12volts door speaker and subs with stock jbl amp and I just say they sound a lot better by changing the headunit.

TRD rear sway bar, console organizer, stubby antenna, LEDs for cabin, cargo, license plate, and reverse lights, power-fold mirrors, Westin nerf bars, full stereo upgrade. Future - color-match grill surround/bulge, mirror caps, handles, plasti-dip badges.
The JBL system is generally included in the Limited, Platinum, and 1794 trims. You'll know it if you have it, there all JBL logos on the radio as well as the speaker grills.

That is an amp. I'm pretty sure all systems have an amp (maybe the lowest grade SR package does not). There are a bunch of threads here with more info. I think the typical Entune system for SR5 has an amp for the door speakers and the Head Unit powers the dash speakers.
