so i am planning on getting 8 of these so i can put 4 in the foot well and then 4 as running board lighting. Can the drivers side foot well light cable power all of them or should i tap into somewhere else? and if that is the case how would i make it so they come on when any door is opened? i am completely ignorant when it comes to electrical systems. i am only being ambitious with this because its just running all the positives to the one and the negatives to the other. With that in mind what is the best way to tie all the cables together? just a wire nut after i tap into the main factory drivers side footwell light or is there a better option?

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YXBEQ52/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_4?smid=A368XWQHXB3YQO&th=1

Edit: some research on my own leads me to conclude soldering with shrink tube is the way to go. it will provide a strong joint that is shielded with the tubing. let me know if that is incorrect thinking.

Soldering is always the most secure way to go but also the most difficult. FWIW, I've never soldered anything when wiring in a car and I've done probably 10 headunits, 7 or 8 amp and sub configurations, countless speaker installs, a backup camera and rewired 12V outlets without a failed connection. Depending on the connection point, you may have to solder though.

I think you'd be fine with 8 off the footwell lamp, LEDs really don't pull much of a load.

I noticed the model LED's you're looking at are non-dimmable. Our interior lights run through a dimming circuit, they fade on and off. Non dimmable LED's may flicker while dimming or not fade on/off very gracefully. Not positive, not very experienced in 12v dimming circuits but something I'd look into before I installed everything.

Oh this is good advice. I will power one before I install them all and see how they react. If they just shut off while everything is dimming I'm fine with that but I dont want repeated flickering. I picked that one because it was waterproof and the power lines coming out of it was protected with a rubber jacket. I was concerned about the 4 that will be outside in the elements. Especially where I live the winters can be very harsh and I didn't want water and ice to destroy it my first winter season. Do you have a different LCD strip you reccommend?

Look into Posi-Locks instead of plain wire nuts.

Btw, I wanna add this sort of interior lighting but I wanna steer clear of the ribbon lighting. The sticky tape never holds up and should your foot accidentally brush up against it, it's hanging afterwards. Any other light suggestions?

They make them now. $7 mod, brighter? Buy 2 sets. Cut off the button switch and positap to existing footwell bulb wires. Turns on/off when you open the door. Secure with zip ties, it’ll never kick off.

These are LED strips. I was kinda looking for pods I guess...sort of like rocklight pods. Something I can screw in or secure better than with sticky tape.

I’d imagine pods are directional spotlights. LED strips bath light all over. The hardware can’t be seen tucked underneath unless you’re a midget walking up to an opened door, so the setup doesn’t need to be pretty, just secure.

Depends on the lighting look you’re after. Double strips look exactly like this VLED setup.

I just realized my passenger side is only 3M taped because there’s nothing to zip tie in that location, hasn’t fallen off over a year.

Don't get me wrong, I like the light output from the strips, but I'm just concerned about the adhesive holding up to accidental foot encounters, etc.

Going to do this on my new tundra. But I will not use the strips. I used them on my wrangler and they were constantly getting kicked or coming loose just from the Louisiana heat.

You could always run a thin bead of clear silicone around the edges for a little extra oomf. If you keep the edges up, it shouldn't fall.

Maybe it's where I installed them, have never kicked them ever, not even my less than careful kids. And it's not like I'm trying to be careful avoiding them, I move my legs/feet wherever I want.

Use 3M VHB tape. Iso alcohol to prep. It'll never come off unless you want it to.

Nice, I might pick these up for my footwells. I miss having indirect lighting like my old Buick had. Its nice to have interior light at night that isn't right in your face.

Plan to do this soon, wondering what you all used to secure to the rear of the front seat? I seen two posts about Velcro, anyone else have any other options?

There were no kits available that I knew of at the time I did this. Now I would just go with a kit honestly.
