I put a cover on my 2010 Tundra but the tailgate needs to be sealed to prevent moisture. There is a huge gap at the upper portion. Camper tape is not an option. The gap is too large. Does anyone have a simple solution to to this? Also, I travel on gravel roads a lot and the bed needs to be sealed better to keep out the dust.

I have a topper on my truck and used the same thick rubber molding the topper company used to seal the window on the back of the topper. it is about 1" thick and adheres to any smooth surface and should fill that gap?

What kind of cover did you get? I have a soft roll type cover and it seals from bed to tailgate.

I had the same problem when I installed my ARE shell. I added some weather strip from Auto Zone to the bed portion and sheet rubber to the tail gate. Not pretty but works. No leaks, even in a car wash or the 500 year rains we had last month. The pictures are the prototype, the tape is gone now. I don't have the dust problem but you can weather strip the bottom also to keep that down.

I'm going to come up with a solution that is like a sock and call it the "tailgate condom". I'll make a killing.

Nor7; the cover isn't the problem. It's the tailgate fitting to the bed. I love my Tundra but this is one place Toyota really goofed. My Tacoma had the same problem. I'll have to get some thicker tape and try that, the only thing I've got now is 1/8" thick. Thanks for your help.

In all seriousness, the cover manufacturers sell a rubber membrane designed to seal the bottom and sides of the tailgate. They're about $30 and sometimes they are offered as a free gift with the purchase of the cover. The area that I think seals poorly still is where the top of the tailgate meets the bottom of the cover.
