Finally found the noise coming from the rear end! Wheel bearings are toast! Since I have the axels out I was going clean up the diff. Anything I should be looking for or should pay attention to when I open it up My first time!:fingerscrossed: Also, suggestions for lsd fluid. Got 179000 and I don't know about previous service

Definite grinding and vibration. Tried to spin after I removed axel and it grinds and stops as soon as you let go! I was scared to drive it,.

I would personally not mess with the diff. Just drain and refill the fluid!

There was a little bit of a metallic sludge in the first bit of fluid that came out. Wanted to do a good cleaning and flush to get it all out before I put new fluid in.

I don't know that there is a good way to really flush it out. Since diff fluid is relatively cheap you could a drain+fill now and then do it again in a month or so. That's the approach some of us have been taking on our transmission fluid.

Decided to do just that. I put about 25000 miles a year on my truck. Mostly highway miles, but I do pull a camper that gets pretty close to the top end of my weight. Any suggestions on lsd fluid?

Squeeze some new fluid into the fill hole and watch it wash the last little bits out of the drain hole. Plug and fill and the magnet will do its job.
