Hey everyone, I’m a brand new Platinum owner and all I want to do is keep it as perfect as possible. Previously I had a 07 Nissan Frontier, 2wd with power windows and a CD player, nothing fancy. I bought it new and planned to have it for 15 years, but a kid sideswiped me and my insurance totaled it (USAA was incredible the whole way, never had to make a claim prior to this incident). I don’t want to be too long winded so I’ll get to it. What are the rims on my Platinum made out of? I don’t know what tire cleaner I can use, last night I purchased Wise Guy, Solution, and a small bottle of Cool Guy from Shine Supply, thank you @War Machine and @Pudge and everyone else for all your input on this site, it’s been super helpful to me. Currently, my truck is in the shop getting a ceramic coat. They’re applying the ceramic to the rims as well as the paint, windows, trim, and tonneau. Will any of the cleaners mentioned above damage the coating on the rims when I clean the tires? I have some more questions about what to do with my ceramic coating, but I’ll save that for later. Thank you all in advance for your help, this seems to be a great community and it has already been so helpful. I bought Husky floor mats and like them way better than the weathertech that we have in my wife’s Explorer.

Welcome! Hope you and everyone involved in the accident are ok! You didnt want to drive a Nissan any how. They are the worst drivers of all the different brands imo. Whenever someone cuts me off, does something scary stupid, or making faster traffic pass on the right(highway), 75% of the time theyre driving a Nissan.

I would ask all of the questions about ceramic coating to the installer, then double check back here for a second opinion. My guess is that our wheels are aluminum or alloy but I really have no idea.

Thanks man, everyone was ok, except for the kids Dad’s wallet, he went head-on with a 2017 Panamera, bounced off him and sideswiped me, but everyone was ok. I’ve asked the installer at the shop, he says nothing will hurt it, but I’d say that too if I were trying to sell a service. I just don’t want to mess around and etch my rims with the wrong cleaner. I’ll keep inquiring over there though. My Nissan, what can I say, it started up every single time, so I’m that regard, it was cool...but that’s about it. I’m super happy with my new Tundra for sure.

The shine supply wise guy tire cleaner didn't damage my wheels at all, and I had it a little too concentrated my first time around. Make sure you dilute it down, I think 2:1 to 5:1 is good enough to clean tires.

You should ask the shop what they recommend to maintain your ceramic, my vote it for carpro hydro2 and or reload.
Optimum opti seal is a good sealant too. You should use a spray sio2 sealant every 3-4 months and decon with IronX 1-2 times per year. You could also polish it out once or twice a year with carpro essence plus. Make sure you get essence plus, they make essence as well but it's a polish that goes in before a coating, essence + is after a coating.

Do you know what coating they're applying? If the wheels are coated, you'll not need a wheel cleaner....they will clean up with soap and water. There are warnings on Shine Supply's website about the type of wheels that Wise Guy should not come in contact with. I'd be inclined to stick with their APC to do your tires. I do not have any coated vehicles, but in the detailing community CarPro Reset gets very good reviews as far as shampoos go for coated cars. What's nice is that Reset is a pure soap....nothing added so nothing to alter or impact the characteristics of the coating.

Hey man, congrats on the truck! To answer your question, no, those products will not harm your coating. Cool guy is coating safe, and wise guy should only be used on the tires. If you’re worried, you could just use soap (Shift by Shine Supply works great) to clean the rims. I have a mobile detailing business and Shine Supply is the only company I use! If you want, I can give you some pointers on how to maximize the life of your coating. Just send me a PM. Do you know what brand coating was applied?

I picked up my truck today. It’s Ceramic Pro. It’s really amazing, I’m glad I found out about ceramic coatings, I’d never heard about them until recently. Also today my order from Shine Supply came in. I got a bunch of stuff including what both you guys mentioned. Except I bought Chemical Guys Honeydew Snow Foam for soap. I’m excited to try out all the shine supply products, I’ve been looking for something better than the stuff you can find at auto parts stores. I feel like the pictures don’t do it justice because it’s white, it’s so buttery irl

Tire shine products are formulated to not damage wheels (rims) - standard steel wheels, alloy wheels etc.
The only product that I know might damage wheels would be something like Purple Power. If left on alloy or aluminum without rinsing it can pit the metal. The platinum wheels actually comes with a clear coat type coating so it would probably be protected against that also, but I would not take the chance.
Wheel cleaners should all be okay.

Shine Supply is a pretty great company, with phenomenal service. Most of their stuff is on par with the quality companies, but they have a couple of products that really stand out.

Wise Guy Tire Cleaner is the best I’ve tried by a long shot.
Trim Shield is expensive, but another one that blows the competition away, IMO.
Their Signature Wax is really outstanding also, but I don’t use wax very often.

I think the only thing of theirs I didn’t care for is their window cleaner.

It looks really great! White is probably the hardest color to show improvement to in pictures, but you can really see it here.
Honeydew Snow Foam is the only CG product I use regularly, other than some of their towels. It does a great job. Look into some Optimum No Rinse or Carpro Ech20 also. They’re really good for doing quick washes, and one of the least harsh methods of washing.

I at least have to get the heritage grill! I’ll worry about suspension and wheels a little later!

My last truck was black and honestly now that I know about coatings, I’d definitely buy another black vehicle in the future. I really like Voodoo Blue too, any color is on the table now for a future vehicle though. I’m stoked on it

Thanks for the info on the ceramic coating because I’ve been second guessing myself for choosing a black vehicle again and trying to keep it clean and nice. Sounds like it is well worth it, especially when you buy new.
