    Hi Folks!

I have a 2014 CrewMax with the stock V8. I tow a 9500 pound camper and need more power for the hills of NH and VT. Any suggestions on how to ramp up the pulling power? I put in a K&N filter, but I'm thinking about a cold air intake, maybe a new muffler set up. Any suggestions or recommendations?

    Thanks!

Thanks tmart. I'm hoping to keep the upgrade under $1K if possible...budgets!

You're awfully close to the tow capacity of these trucks. I'm sure a heavy duty truck is not anoption but that is the only good and safe solution.

As far as more power goes, you could do a super charger and gain a lot of hp and trq.
Or you could talk to Keith at dirtydeeds and get long tube headers, exhaust, and and a bully dog tuner. Dollar for dollar this is your best option to add power but honestly HP isn't the answer to your towing issues unfortunately

I would not waste money on CAI. It will just make noise. For $1000 I think your options are pretty limited. For a trailer that size you need a 3/4 ton with a diesel.

    Bigger truck. Or, smaller trailer.

When your trailer starts getting in that range of weight - it's time for a 3/4 or 1 ton truck to safely tow.

I agree with the above posts. intake/exhaust doesn't really do much. The way your truck comes from the factory is pretty much the best its gonna get barring a supercharger. Either sell the tundra and get a diesel, or bust out for the supercharger. I vote supercharger.

4.88 gears will give you way more bang for the buck than any motor mod (minus blower)

Torque is what you want. $1K is not going to buy a lot of torque but it will yield you a little. Honestly you and I are towing around the same load and I must say you either need a bigger truck or SC that sucker and be happy with the truck you already have.

    It never ends does it?
I originally installed the SC to help with towing - which really never materialized. When I have towed with it you don't really notice the power unless you're climbing a long steep grade with over 1/2 throttle but holy cow does it move.

This. Too much trailer for a Crewmax.

To clarify - trailer dry weight is 7,800 and I never top it off with weight. I'm probably pulling 9K at the absolute most...usually more like 8,500. Adding Airbags next week which should help the tow as well.

Tundra is rated for 9,500 - Trailer dry is 7,750.

Dont forget that 9500 is with no gear or passengers in the truck(passengers other than driver)

It’s easy to load 500-1000+lbs into a trailer. Adds up fast
