Left my Tail Gate down like a ding dong! Upon returning home I reversed into the side yard and backed into a pole!

Does anyone think this can be repaired? Or, do I have to buy a new $500 tail gate?

LOL!!!! if you look closely, you can see said pole!!!!

Might be able to pick up one up at a pick-a-part yard on the cheap?

That can be repaired.. looks like body gap is still aligned, so just needs to be pulled, filled and painted.. but depending on what they go for used, might be better to go that way.

Bed components are bound to get beat up anyway, I would just leave it the way it is now.

I would think the labor to repair would be more expensive than finding a used one.

You didn't notice the image of the ground on the screen when you put it in reverse?

Well, he left it down and reversed. He will not be able to see the pole on the screen as it will be out of the camera's view.

I know, it just always catches my eye whenever I've shifted into reverse seeing the bumper and ground. I Immediately think "Oh, shit, I left the tailgate down". Maybe I use the backup camera more than others.

Did that with my parents’ F250 1973 crew cab. It looked like that from 1977 until about 1989, when I sold the truck. Backed into a humongous eucalyptus. I hate those trees.

You will have to have a new tail gate, and it will most likely be more than 500

Check car-part.com, enter all your information for your truck and your zip code and see what comes up. You do not have to worry about getting a gate with the camera because you can swap all of that from your existing one.

Been there. If it still works, just leave it. As soon as you fix it, something else will happen to it.

Don't feel bad. I thought I could slide a 3000 lb pallet of gravel off the back of mine. It slide right off and bowed the tailgate. Worst part my wife was watching.

fix it and keep the truck looking nice. once you have a dent like that and you do not fix you will stop caring about the rest of the truck. downward slope to a shit box. pride in ownership! tell you what , i would never buy a truck from the people that say do not fix it. what else didnt they fix?

I think he's saying if you see the ground when backing up on the camera, then tail gate is down.

I'd leave it, before long you won't notice. The second day I had my truck, I rammed the tailgate with the end of a 2" square steel tube I was trying to lift over it into the bed and missed. I was pissed for about a week, then stopped thinking about it.

OP, you have a nice truck. If the price isn't outrageous, get it fixed. Yeah, they're trucks, but you'll be hating life when you go to wash your nice truck and have that nagging dent in the tailgate. If it was a work truck, as in a base work truck, no, leave it.

That happened to me a few months ago. Exact the same spot but worse. I had to slam the gate to keep it close and wiggle the tailgate handle to open it. I had to replace the whole tailgate. Cost me $1700. Parts and labor.
