I must say that my association with this forum has been very beneficial to me.
First, you guys keep me mentally engaged.
Second, you individually and collectively, teach/instruct with overall sound knowledge from a diverse group, often in disagreement, but which lends the viewer a broader knowledge than the typical "pat" answer we are so accustomed to in normal discourse, should one pursue it.
Third, your enthusiasm is contagious and infects - no inspires - those receptive to the great fondness you have for your Tundras. I named mine Trixie; she is the only inanimate object I possess that I have so named.

I've learned, through research inspired by forum discussion, and contrary to what I've been taught, that drilled and slotted disks have little value to the average driver and only weaken the disks. The slotted may well figure into the needs of the racer, who is willing to sacrifice an extreme short pad life for a continuing renewal of the pads surface as he brakes and shaves off a minute amount of the pad each time the slots travel over the disk's surface, thus keeping the pad clean. As to the drilled disks, the generally held position within the automotive engineer's world is that there is no value, and that the heat dispelling character so attributed to it is bunk science. Anecdotal info, for sure, with no cites.

As a former legal researcher, I follow hunches at times as well as sound leads and legal precedent. I often enough wear the attire and carry the unperturbed constitution of the Don Quixote of our literary past, looking for dragons to wage the good fight. In a field where the most subtle change in language, word choice, can upend data/evidence; you tend to look broadly at issues and bulldog those that are unsettled, if for no other reason than to put them to rest. Sometimes all this "data" is simply coincidental, proving nothing, with no facts or linkage to support in the long run - that's what research is partly all about, finding fact over fiction, to simplify the point here.
So it was with the ABS bleeding, as false flags from a variety of sources indicated this was a real issue for the 2002 Tundra. It still might be, though I am reluctant to pursue it further myself, having chased too many unsupported claims and having been given an unimpeachable statement from a competent witness that such a procedure doesn't exist. Formally or officially.

I have indeed been inspired to become more involved with Trixie. I have recently gone out and replaced the tools that were stolen almost two years ago. I even upgraded to the new and very much improved lithium-ion battery powered universe, taking advantage of several seasonal sales events and buying what I perceive to be quality consumer-grade drill drivers, impact driver, impact ratchet and impact wrench. Two torque wrenches, a large breaker bar, and new floor jack. Tool boxes and tool rolls, wrench sets and sockets galore - chrome and impact. Three chargers and five lithium-ion batteries, to add to those I still possessed. Then I schooled myself on how to resurrect those batteries from the dead, while buying a multimeter to join my soldering iron for the predicted future occurrences.
My ancestors were Scots, noted for their frugality, so any expenditure on my part that spreads itself over a large period of time is most noteworthy and unusual - so goes inspiration, I guess. I walked away from most wrenching about thirty years ago, with neither the time nor the disposition to agreeably work on cars, etc. Then I bought a Jeep and my wrenching went to hell as none of my efforts bore good fruit and I kicked the Jeep out of my garage and invested my time with my horses. Now retired as I am, and no longer owning the farm, I have the time to invest in Trixie. Short of any major issue, I will happily devote the money and effort to keep her in a "cherry" condition. She is a classic that I will ride into my sunset.

well written and compelling. I purchased the drilled and slotted rotors for my truck several years ago and they do work better at dispersing heat than the OEM rotors for long steep descents even while using my low 4x4 gear to control speed. There are trails out here where you will still need to brake even in low :) However, for daily driving they make no sense to me.

I’m still wondering if he ever bled his ABS module/corrected his ‘real or mythical’ problem? So many parsings of words.

I have been a writer for the better part of my life, off and on for about 50 years, and something hard to just walk away from when it has become so ingrained. Now retired, it is the one thing I miss the most and it shows in my comments as I indulge in my craft. Apparently in detriment to my audience, here. Sorry guys, I just don't write in any other manner.

The ABS system is no longer in question, though I will be revisiting the brake issue at a later date, as it has been put aside for the time being as I work a perceived problem - Trixie is sporting a mileage of 125,000 and in need of a transmission fluid service. I have no info on the previous owner and his maintenance on the truck, but I do know that the truck came with the towing package and he had an electric brake controller installed, though what kind and how it operated is unclear to me. What it means is, if he did use her to tow, then I would hope that he would have serviced the tranny more often than is usual - I simply do not know, such is my concern. With this in mind and the fact that I have no idea what type of tranny fluid has been used, I decided to go beyond a mere drain of four quarts and refill, to the more thorough removal of the pan and replacement of the filter and fluids. While I am at it, I plan on installing a Magnefine filter on the tranny's return line from the cooler. And I have finally sourced 14 liters of pure Dexron III tranny fluid which will be delivered this week, as well as the drain plug washers and gasket. I plan to follow up with a complete fluid service of the diffs and transfer case, as well as flushing the power steering system and replacing the fuel filter.

Future plans include replacing the master cylinder and both rear brake drums, before moving on to an exhaust system built around the Flowmaster 50 Delta muffler.

A similar situation with my 2007, no service records and the previous owner had moved the brake controller to another vehicle before putting the truck up for sale. I systematically replaced all fluids & filters, and I performed all of the other factory recommended maintenance for a truck that towed in severe conditions. The truck had 270k when I purchased it cheap, so brakes, shocks, springs, tires and other items wear & tear items were replaced with new. It now has about 286k on it, and it runs & drives great.

My awesome 2002 will hit 165k soon... it has required very little extra maintenance & repair.

You should try some other forums. Your post would be considered terse on some. Although writing more than a line or two on your phone is fast becoming a lost art there are still some places where multi-page comments are common.

Marbles, hows the ‘pure stuff’ working for ya?

I’m sticking with the DEX/MERC as its more tailored to our transmissions. The Maxlife by Valvoline caters to a broader spectrum of vehicles, but if you read between the lines its probably not the best choice for 2002 year A340F.

The Dex/Merc may be the ticket, but I just did the pan removal and filter replacement, refilling the tranny with almost 12.5 liters of Dex III that I purchased from Amazon after buying the last 14 liters they had. The tranny is shifting fine, as it was before I changed the fluid. I did note that the fluid that was in it looked brand new, bright pink and no burnt smell. Maybe I got ahead of myself, but it's nice to know it's all copacetic now.
Like I said, Amazon sold me the last it could muster up, with the boxes coming from 5 different shipping points. Could it be that I bought the last Dex III in the states? It sure was a chore finding the 14 liters I did buy. I guess it will be Dex/Merc for the next service...

How’d your pan contents look? Fine metal or chunks?

    Your screen contents? Clogged?

Good news on the fluid looking new. Which screen/filter/gasket did you use?

Just saying you bought something on Amazon could mean a number of possibilities. How about some actual brand names and maybe pics?

Looks like you cleaned out the stock. You very well may have the last batch of pure DEXIII in the world.

I saw that Beck Arnley screen when doing research. There is a Wix filter, as well. How’d your old pan contents look?

The Beck Arnley didn't come with a cork gasket but rather a soft black rubber one. I used a utility knife (razor blade) and a razor blade affair made for removing decals, etc., from glass to scrap off the old gasket material. The old filter had nothing, no shavings, crud, nor pieces of metal in it. The pan was basically clean, as were the 4 magnets.
Using the funnel made for an easy but slow fill. I only had to top the fluid up on one occasion. Well, so far. I did the service by myself, as my son was far too busy. That's it.

My next project is the replacing of my instrument cluster lighting with LEDs - going for the blue look, though I want to have a differing light scheme for the gear indicators. Then on to the interior lighting. I have already spent a great deal of time trying to ascertain what the differing bulbs are called, part#, etc., where they go...it's been a pain trying to decipher. Seems some bulbs have several names/numbers to identify them, ouch! Anyway, that is what's currently on my task list.

@Professional Hand Model ...Just to put this to rest while addressing your skepticism and questioning of my comments, actions, etc., I decided to include this redacted (and now unformatted) invoice. BTW: it was seven boxes not five.

Good news and it is piece of mind knowing your pan looked good!

Your info here has helped me make a decision NOT to drop my pan for purposes of installing a new screen. I have been researching valve body kits that ‘improve/customize shifting points’ and if I decide to go that route will have to drop the pan and use a WIX screen gasket kit that reviews well per Toyota commenters.

Your findings on your pan corroborate two other 2002 Tundra/Sequoia owners as being super clean on drop inspections. Bottom line seems to be don’t fix if its not a problem.

    Thanks for your info.

Only questioning for answers on findings etc. to help others and myself. See above comment. Not sure where the paranoia about skepticism/actions (if there is any) comes into play.

We can’t read your mind so pictures and specific descriptions help. Thanks again.

Yeah Marbles. Reading your progression here over the last several months and it appears you’ve finally gotten your meds adjusted to proper levels? Anyways, I’m surprised with your extensive law-fare background you missed the option of DEX VI due to a loose marble or three?

DEX VI Licensed and Approved by GM as replacement for DEX III.
