I went with my Son yesterday to the Dealer to buy his first brand new vehicle. He loves it ! A 2019 4Runner.
This morning looked at the tires and noticed the yellow dots not even close to the valve stem. It does drive smooth but also noticed at least 6 ounces of weight on one of the tires. Weird to me that it came straight off the lot like that..I guess that’s just the standard these days..

Well the tire has a red dot, so they probably lined that up with the low spot on the rim so the mounted tire was as round as possible. Having the tire as round as possible is more important than minimizing added weight.

Not quite sure I understand, Are you saying the just the wheel was balanced first ? Then the tire was mounted and balanced ?

From what I’ve researched and been through the last year, six ounces isn't that big of deal on a suv/truck. I wouldn’t worry about it.

No, the rim has a mark on it (or a dimple) to show where the "low" part of the rim is. The red dot on the tires show the "high" point of the tire. You usually match those up so that when you mount the tire to the rim, the tire isn't egg-shaped. If the tire has a red dot, it should take precedent over the yellow dot. The yellow dot just shows the lightest part of the tire.

From what I understand if the weights are under 1 percent of the weight of the tire wheel combo you’re in an acceptable range.

4Runners are notoriously sensitive to tire alignment and balancing, even with the stock tires. If it’s out at all, you may get a little shimmy in the steering wheel around 55-60mph. If that happens, I’d definitely take it back and make them sort it out.

Thanks guys, he loves the 4Runner and it does drive smooth at all speeds.
I’m definitely not going to put my ocd onto him , lol.
