moved up from a tacoma; bought a 2019 trd 4x4 sport and was wondering if either of the following tires would fit without a level or lift. current tires are 255/70/20; like to have a little more sidewall.

    285/70/17
    275/65/18

Your current size is 275/55/20 (size you mentioned would 34" and not sure they make that size)
The old Rock Warriors were 285/70/r17, so you could probably fit w/o a lift or level, but I'm not 100% sure you can fit 17s on the 2014+ with the brake calipers.
The 275/65/18s are the stock size for my TRD OR and would fit fine.

Well, its a long and winding road as I'm finding out! :annoyed:

I just picked up a 2019 Crewmax 4x4 TRD off road last month and have been trying to upgrade my tires and wheels from the stock Michelin 265-65-18 on TRD rims to something with a more wheel well filling and aggressive appearance. I bought some Bronze Method Racing Roost rims in 18x9 +18 offset and some LT295/70R-18 COOPER DISCOVERER AT3 XLT tires. I removed my mudflaps all around, picked up new lug nuts with a different conical shape to fit the Method rims, and delivered everything to Wheel Works, fingers crossed...

On Install day the Installer called and I went to look, the tire rubbed in the front pretty solid, more than I was led to believe based on the research I had done here! Several posters say they installed on stock vehicles with no issues, different rims may explain some of the disconnect, I'm not sure but they would not install with this much rub. Disappointed, I was thinking it was just Wheel Works not wanting to deal with it and I was ready to just have them load everything up and go elsewhere. I went and consulted with the one guy at the local 4 Wheel Parts (who has a seriously lifted Tacoma) and seemed to know what he was talking about in general, He consulted their system and said it advised a 4" lift was needed to fit that tire/wheel combo, and that even with a 285-65-18 on the Methods I would need to do a 3" leveling/lift. I want to do the 3/1 anyhow, so...

I called and begged Tire Rack to exchange my 295's for the smaller 285-65 tires, I they might give me crap since they called me when I ordered asking if I was sure I knew what I was doing and said the tires would not fit, I was all like "nah the Tundras.com forum says they will fit no problem!, ship em!"

Fortunately they didn't say anything and just issued the RMA and pick up for UPS! Added bonus, the smaller Coopers come with white letters, which with me being an old fart I do like and want. I'll be trying again next week when the tires get here, and will update with pics. :fingerscrossed:

think I'm going to run with the 275/65/18 since I'm stock and use a pro comp 32 series bandido 18x9 wheel with 5 on 150
