If you plasti dip just put the protector on top of it that they sell for it. Have never tried just throwing it out there. You can always just paint them as long as you sand them down a bit before you do that. Just depends how much work you want to put into it.

Just curious about removing my badges, painting and re-install. For removing, are most using heat gun (sparingly) and fishing line?

just use fishing line. i didnt use heat ... just some elbow grease and wd40 to take off the gunk. i was hesitant but researched and wd40 did nothing to harm my paint. even used it to take off the trd off road stickers on the bedside. good luck.

Another vote for plasti dip. I did it to my 2016 Taco and it still looks great 3.5 years later.

That's what I used. They have options that add black to the badges but not completely get rid of the chrome. The little bit of chrome left around the edges sets it off nicely and adds detail.

All chrome gone, pro grill, KC ditch light and bluetooth wireless controller.
If you do it wrong, yes. But, if you do many light coats it looks great. Everyone asks where I bought my red badges and are surprised when I tell them it's plastidip.
