I cant remember the forum, but there was a guy that was making the stubby antenna's that seemed to get a lot better reception than the name brands. I just cant find who or where I saw them at. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

Don't know what you're referring to but I ended buying a short antenna from AntennaX. I get the same reception as I did with my OEM antenna but also live in Houston, TX and we're a pretty city and don't think there's a reception issue around here. I also have gone to the suburbs and haven't had an issue out there also. Here's the link to the antenna I bought. Hope this helps some of y'all looking to getting a shorty.

The guy sells them on TT. I do know people were having issues with the antenna base cracking because the antenna wasn't as flexible as OEM. For that reason I looked no further.

I'm guessing you want to listen to FM which broadcasts basically 88 MHz to 108 MHz, here's a site for non-hams to figure out antenna length by frequency http://www.qsl.net/kd4sai/antencal.html choose the center frequency of 98 MHz and punch the calculate button. Use the quarter wave antenna as it gives you the broadest frequency range. But then I'm into RF both professionally and as a hobby.

I have a 6" ami big stick antenna and I'm not getting any worse reception when I listen to fm (given I don't listen to it a lot though)

Ah it's ok. We just like to do our own mod writeups instead of just posting a link. Either way the best thing to do is help the members.

I have an antenaX 13". Not as good as stock but fine in town.
Had a stubby billet aluminum one on my Tacoma and it broke off in a car wash.

I got the 13'' antennaX from Amazon and I can tell you that so far the reception wasn't much different from the original. but then again, you get what you pay for. cost $15.
