Very first post! We plan to buy a used Tundra to haul a popup camper - 4 Wheel Camper or Hallmark Milner 6.5 foot bed length - (not a popup trailer type camper.)

Are there year models to avoid? Year models that are known to be good. Can be 2nd or 3rd Gen, 5.7L, double cab, 4WD. THANKS in advance for your input.

2017 is the best year! Last one before TSS was implemented.

There is no bad year.. They're all good. I personally love 3rd gens, but some people on here have some sweet 2nd gens.

I'd recommend 09+ purely because the early 2nd gens like my 08 had really twitchy throttles

If you plan to haul a camper, I'd recommend a '16 or newer with the SR5 Upgrade package (38-gal fuel tank) Otherwise, you might be stopping every 200 miles for gas.

If you want good looks, perfect size, and dependability with a higher payload... then a 1st Gen is the call.

If you want to tow the Space Shuttle, then the later models suit your bill.

If I've been reading correctly, seems like 07-09 had frame rusting issues. I'd go with 2010-2017. All-in-all though, these trucks are awesome.

You might be better off worrying about color choice. As most people will say, "all years are good, but Blue Ribbon Metallic is the best color." Stay away from MGM, Black and White.

Avoid them all. A fully loaded pop up camper is going to overload a Tundra. If you really want a camper you can haul, get something that has the payload rating you need.
Why not get a trailer? Much easier to stay under the payload rating of a Tundra with a trailer and all the gear / food / water you bring with you.
They can tow, just can't haul all that much..get a 3/4 ton if you want to haul

My 08 lift with 35s will burn the tires off lol I have even chipped the tires starting out pulling my 30' camper lol I really dont know what it is about the 07-09 tundras but they will move.

If your looking for actual data go to the above site (Carcomplaints.com) - you can compare years with owner complaints etc. Otherwise your just going to get everyone stating their year is the best year, and yes 2015 is one of the best

I would add one more thing just look around do your research on the vehicle you choose used if your going that direction because you definitely dont want other people's problems. my biggest issue I have with my truck is the bed rust. For an 08 will it have some rust yes but I didnt expect it at all with only 80k mile when I found it. So a truck bed camper make sure your buying a good solid truck. No drop in bed liner if it does tell them you want it removed for inspection.
