Hi new here and I’m going to be swapping my center console, steering column, shift cable, etc with jump seat and column shifter. I’ve got a 17 CM TSS SR5 with black and grey cloth interior. I’ve already purchased a column with shifter and that’s all. If anyone wants to sell or trade seat for column, shift cable, plastic dash pieces, and whatever else may be needed please let me know. I’ve got a 4th child on the way and will loose my @$$ if I trade(plus I don’t wanna loose the big fuel tank)! Thanks

Even if you could get all of the pieces to make the switch aren't there some legalities with insurance and/or safety since this was not designated as a 6 passenger vehicle? This is where I wish Toyota offered the 38 gallon tank with the bench seat as an option. I guess it saves them enough $$ to not do so.

Maybe. There’s a lot of ridiculous safety regs out there however, I’m not modifying anything it’s all bolt on. And between the two tanks its only an 80lb difference. I couldn’t see it affect insurance being that ppl cut frames and crossmembers to install suspension lifts but if I do get in that situation to use insurance, hopefully I won’t, then it was like that when I bought it... lol

Well i have narrowed it down on the shift cable I need p/n 338200C120. That and a seat and I should be ready for the swap. If anyone out there is converting their bench to console message me. Any help for parts or advice I’d appreciate it.

I'm looking to buy a tundra and I need seating for six, which seems rare, so I may wind up doing this kind of swap too. Please document the process.

After doing a similar conversion (auto trans column shift to manual on the column) as a teen, this is not something I would take on at my age with a 2017, but you have good reasons.

It is doubtful that there is any legal problem with the conversion because the SR5 comes standard with a 40/20/40 front seat and column shifter. The TSS package requires the SR5 Upgrade package as the starting point, and that's why you have the bucket seats and console. Practically speaking, in Texas I doubt that law enforcement cares what you do to your vehicle unless you tinker with the Feds environmental bs, and then it would be tough to get them interested.

Advice: Forget part numbers. Buy everything you need, as a package deal, from a salvage yard. You start buying parts from Toyota to do this, and you will spend a fortune. Depending on how much this conversion will cost, you might want to just consider another SR5 CM.

Update just to keep this going. Just bought a center seat that matches in color and has air vents. Super hard to find that’s not $400+! Looks like I may break even after I sell all my stock stuff(column, shifter, console, cable, etc). Still on the hunt for shift cable and maybe a wire harness( too hot outside to start ripping apart just yet).

upload_2019-10-20_16-1-30.jpgCan anyone with a column shifter see a p/n on the wire harness that goes to this connector I’m pointing to in the pic? If I can get this wire harness this conversion seems pretty possible

Looks like part 9/10 are the wiring controls for the shift lever. I'm curious to know if the upper/lower shroud for a column shift will work with power tilt.
Do you have any pictures of this center seat with vents? I'd like to see it

Not many good pics yet. Still have a few parts to buy but don’t wanna get too deep in buying stuff until I get this wiring figured out. The seat and new column fits great but will need a new air duct and column shrouds. Just stuck on this wiring for now. Definitely gonna be the deciding factor wether I push forward or trade the truck in for a loss. Prob gonna have to swing by a dealership n take a peek under the dash to see this wire harness I need if I can find a tundra with a column shifter which seems rare.

Check that white connector on the left side console harness to see if it matches the connector on your steering column. If you find they match (shape, number of wires, size, wire colors), that says the connector you're pointing to is for the shift lever position...your hope is still alive imo.

The main harness behind the dash may be different for the floor shifter and the column shift models, which means the conversion is still possible, but you'll likely have to build an adapter harness from the console area to the column location. Toyota won't sell such a harness.

If you find building an adapter harness is necessary, I would start by finding wrecked column shift Tundra and buying all the wiring harness I could from the connector you're pointing to back to the main harness, You can extend the wires with same gage wire and add a connector at the other end to match to the console harness.

Yes you are probably right. The biggest problem I’ve been having is finding a wrecked tundra with a column shifter. Even the dealerships around me don’t have em. If I can ever get past this wiring it will b possible.

eBay has a few, ~$100, only thing stopping me from buying one to test fit is do I need an entire column, or just bits and pieces to swap over. Spent too much this month on exhaust and wheels and tires lol

Prob should have been more careful w my words but I meant it’s hard to find a totaled tundra with a column shifter so I can take the wire harness from it. I have a steering column with the shifter no tow haul and it fits perfectly! Also I’ve put the new seat with vents in place and it fits perfectly. What I need is a new air vent, a small dash panel, and a shifter cable however, I won’t buy anything else until I can get this wiring figured out. I wish someone could snap a pic of their wire harness or maybe see if it has a p/n on it. Gonna have to keep calling around to junk yards, maybe I get lucky.

Hi, I pulled my column apart to see if I could find you the part number for that connector. Unfortunately the part that is exposed doesnt have any part numbers and it connects to the other main harness with the other 4 separate connectors as seen in the top right of pic. At least you can maybe check the colors of the wires to see if you can match them up - White Red and light blue I think.

Couldnt get my phone at a good angle to get a better pic. I followed it back as far as I could but could not find a part number anywhere. If there is anything else under there you have questions on let me know. Sorry I couldnt be more helpful.

You're gonna need more carpet there in the front as the console won't cover that hole. Husky liner sells a transmission hump floor mat that I run in my truck. It's like 10 dollars and will cover that area.

Thank you! That is probably gonna answer my question about which bundle goes where in the column, now I need to find out where it connects to at the main harness. Have a pretty good idea. I’ll snap a pic when I get home today.

Here’s some images of my factory harness.
(1)-steering wheel controls, prob same on all
(2)-goes to side of ignition. Won’t b used for new column.
(3)-4 connectors tapped away not being used. I figured these are the ones the harness I need goes to. A few promising pins when I run a ohm chk from connectors (4).
(4)-goes to console shifter. Lower connector goes to manual shift and upper are the wires that are in question.

Can anyone find out if the harness I need goes to the 4 blank connectors(3)? I’m pretty sure the stock wires (4) go through some type of controller.

My 2019 sticker shows the truck as originally having a bench seat but a center console/seat conversion option was added. It is a Gulf States TSS. Maybe that is the legality that would allow the conversion back to 6 passenger. I am sure it is from factory with center console and buckets.

How far are you with this swap?

I need to get a shift cable assembly, but have a seat and a steering column. From a scrap yard. FYI LKQ is where you need to go to get your junk yard parts.

The column I bought came with ~12" of harness cut off so I have the top part of the cabling for the column shift.

It's attached to 3 other plugs through a white w/ black stripes cable.

Looks like a signal cable or something.

My tow package is on the dash so I got the column w/o tow.

    (5) Is the plug that attaches to the column shift portion of the new (to me) column.

I wonder if one of those three unused cables match this cable and if that's the case I wonder if you have to do anything at all about the old console cables other than tape them out of the way.

Other thing I'm having issues with is removing the ignition cylinder from the new column so I can swap mine into it to keep the key the same.
