Hello members what do you guys think of the 13.6 Tesla head unit for our 2nd gen tundras. Right now i called Phoenix Automotive and they said it would fit my dash setup i have the bench with column shifter and two cup holders. What do you think will it fit? Have trouble trusting anything Tesla with the financial issues they are facing. Last year they almost went under and if that happens then there would be no support on their products. Steers me towards one of the companies that’s had a long standing with car audio products.

It’s just a Tesla styled radio. Nothing to do with the actual Tesla company.

I think you missed a plug if the dash light is on.

And for radio swipe right or left on the icons apps the top. It should be in the next set of icons.

Have patience and ask. Took me a few days to get the kinks working.

Check out the Facebook page. Go into the Google drive that is right below the header on the page. Should be tips and videos etc,

Found this for 2nd gen truck airbag light

@JoshuaA I have the correct Netflix and can watch it, but I have no controls other than backing outof the movie. It is like they are hiding behind the a/c controls. Do you have rew/ff pause?

Not sure, I don't use NF on mine, I mainly put media on USB sticks. I'm envious of 2nd gen Tundra/HU owners who can download NF. 3rd gen can't (unless it's the brand new beta PX6 model). Otherwise I'd download NF at home over wifi.

Did you already have auto HVAC? If not does this have that option regardless if you had it factory or not?

No, I can’t set a temp and it’ll stay there self regulating.

I can only raise/lower the temp, 0 to 7 fan setting, and I have to turn it off manually. It remembers the last setting when starting the truck, and the screen doesn’t need to be on fully booted to operate HVAC. That’s an advantage with the button model.

I love that someone came up with making something like this for the Tundra. In the end I didn't pull the trigger because I like knobs for things like fan speed. In the winter with gloves on knobs just work. Of course as someone who hates the winter I'm jealous of all of you who don't see -40 (F or C is the same).

Granted it is not completely ready for mass retail. But with a little tinkering most people are able to get them going fine. This is what you are in for when you like to get the newest stuff before it is perfectly refined and before anyone else. Hell, Chrysler is starting to use more versatile big screens in their trucks. And they are having multiple problems. Take it to the dealer to fix the radio on your $60,000 truck.

Android is a different animal. It is designed to run on multiple pieces of hardware from several different manufacturers. There are tweaks that will be involved. Numbers from 2015 show that then there were over 24,000 different Android devices from over 1,300 manufacturers. It is Android's versatility that wins out.

With Android I get to do what I want to do. Not what apple or another manufacturer wants me to do. Take the simple navigation app. Tell me another manufacturer of a car stereo(aftermarket or OEM) that will let you choose among multiple navigation apps. I would venture to bet none. Do you realize that you cannot download an app on iOS that will let you survey Wi-Fi signals around you? It is very helpful at times. Especially in congested areas. You used to be able to get that in the Apple store very early on. That is until apple decided you don't need that info. So they pulled the app from their store and blocked that info from the user.

If you are not a tinkerer and expect something to work 100% out of the box without any effort on your part, move on and quit going on about something you don't intend to buy. A/C problems for a select few will probably be ironed out in the next firmware update. As well there are private firmware developers that are working on fixes for issues that the mfg is not moving fast enough on as well as customization for something I, as the end user, would like implemented. Try to get that from Kenwood or Alpine. Or Toyota for that matter. Just look at their shitty support for Entune! Use your Entune. Be secure that you can get stock quotes on your radio or buy movie tickets. (Ooops, they removed the movie ticket app)

You are reading issues from a small number of people out of the many that have bought theses units. Most issues have been resolved with a simple question and a simple answer.

Get a ready for retail unit if you want. We, however, will tinker and help the units gets ready for the mass market. Then maybe 5 years down the road you will be able to buy one that integrates into your car's computer like we are using today.

They are integrating into at least 5 different auto manufacturers. Each mfg not only is a different software package, but wiring, and differing built-in features as well.

I always thought they were called Tesla “Style” Android Head Units. But I guess Style got dropped somewhere, so there’s the confusion. And I’d have to guess less than a few % of the 3.6K Facebook members have voiced problems that haven’t been solved. That said, I don’t recommend them for people that aren’t technically inclined because new owners do have growing pains, what we commonly read about.

They just keep getting better with stronger processors and nicer screens, I’ll always transplant one no matter what I drive.

That gave me a bit of boost but maybe I don’t notice because it’s already pretty loud 1/3 volume. I have my equalizer set to “Rock” and bass level up one notch within those presets, pounds pretty good with Tech12V speakers.

What I just did today I should have done a long time ago is set the “Save ACC Volume” to ON which saves the last volume level. Not start pounding every time I start the truck lol

It’s those kinds of things that annoy new users because it’s understanding where things are in androidOS.

Digging this thread up, how hard is it to install the head unit? Does it come with plugs i can just plug in or do i need to splice into my harness? I can do engine swaps but electrical stuff is not something i do.

This was super easy, for me at least. It's just a little time consuming and there are YouTube installation videos that are pretty much step by step. If you can do an engine swap then this is a no brainer

Join the facebook group, there are more specific install instructions/vids and you'll get immediate help with your 2008. It'll still be plug and play, the major hurdles are dialing things in if something isn't working right the way it should, and it's usually buried in the settings somewhere. You can also get any concerns answered before you buy, whether it's right for you or not. Look for the 18:32 minute install vid by Michael N, your gen truck.

Trust me its easy and its so worth it. Makes the interior billion times better. Everything is plug and play. Not every plug gets used but theres one for the a/c and couple for the computer and all tabs go in with a click sound.

I can't believe people are actually buying this thing. I have read so many issues with this. Not just on the Tundra forum. You can get a much better head unit from an actual company who been producing stereos for decades. Stay away from anything with Android in it's title. It's a cheap ass tablet made to fit in the dash and work like a radio. There's a facebook book page with help for troubleshooting? Really? To those of you who wish to spend the money on this, good luck.

I wished to spend money on it and it has worked Flawlessly! Stick with the HU of your choice and I'll stick with this "Android" HU that has been awesome to tinker with and add all kinds of extra things that are not offered by other brands. If you don't like this HU.... which you've clearly offered your .02 already then move on.... we'll take a brief moment to note your disagreement and then go back to loving this HU... Good day!
