    I just bought an 08 5.7 4x4 with 90k mi. Nothing has been done except regular oil and filter changes for life of truck. I know lots of people who get 200k or more without ever flushing trans or even changing trans fluid. Local dealer trying get me to change plugs and do a trans flush for about 400 buks. Really??? How important is this.

    Seeing how you don't know what was done/not done I would consider it...as well as differential flush/fill...

    I did this on a regular basis on my Power Stroke. With help from others on the board found the low pressure return line. At the cooler disconnected line and installed tygon tubing, cranked her up and all 17 quarts pumped out and the torque converter as well.
    Afterwards I would drain just the pan about every 30k to 40 k. traded her off at 178k ran like a top and pulled a 28 foot Keystone Outback. Tranny fluid will be exposed to air and this will create all types of acids and corrosion.

    So a DIY pan drain, or full drain is a good investment and for peace of mind. Four bills seems a bit steep I've had that process done for around 150 or so but then long ago about 5-8 years ago and guess depends on where you are located.

    The diffs. are a good thing to drain and flush. We did ours on duece and a halfs and man talk about smell whew wee...Amsoil did a study of diff. failures and they recommend a change out after a break in period; which of course does not happen. In this case it can only help and it would be a good time to upgrade to the 140 weight....but I have not studied enough on the T's to know what Toyota recommends.....
    On edit IF you do your own oil changes I cannot recommend the Fumoto drain plug enough. using a short piece of tygon tubing straight into the used containers and the wind doesn't whip those last few drop in your nose! Don't ask.....

    I would definitely change out the plugs and all fluids myself. Put the rest of the $$$$ in my pocket. At least you know its done right, drained & filled correctly, and don't have to worry about dealer messing up your ride.
