Switched to zero turn myself this year. I’ll never go back. That thing is amazing. A bit of a learning curve I wasn’t expecting though.

There is no going back as they save so much time. Sometimes I even like to 'drift' around my trees in the field.

So why does the zero point turn save so much time? I understand in tight areas but when I used to mow my father’s large lawn with a mower like your first one, I just made loops around the yard or a staggered pattern. At my job when the guys mow, if they do a zero point turn it usually tears the grass up pretty bad.

In my case, I like to make straight back and forth cuts because well, it looks good. With my old lawn mower I had to do 3 point turns at the end of every strip. With the new one it's a swift pull and push of a lever and I back going the opposite direction. Also I noticed I can cut at near full speed of the zero turn and with the old one it was so what slow going. I took my hour and 20 minute cut to just under 30 minutes on Sunday.

I got a Z125 with the 26hp motor and love it. Have had for about 3 years with no issues and it cuts great. Put a set of the oregon(gator) mulching blades to help cut the blades down a bit without doing a full mulch system and love the way it cuts and all. I have just over 2.5 acres, then my house and small pond on it and cut it in about an hour vs a lawn tractor with same size deck and motor that took me about an hour and a half. not to mention, i do the back and forth strips at horizontals, verticals, and 60 degree angle both ways. this helps to prevent common driving areas/ruts. learn to turn by keep moving forward, just with one going slower....or learn to have the wheels go opposite each other when trying to do turns. will help with ruts when turning, as well as getting stuck. mine came with the lights and upgraded seat and have been pretty happy with both. congrats on purchase! you'll be happy with it (not sure if the last file of a hyperlapse video I did yesterday will load or not)

For me, the steering & power controls, and ride comfort are better on a traditional riding mower / tractor. YRMV.

I just like the fact that they're quicker than traditional lawn tractors and can get some better cuts/lines in the grass without 3 pt turns and all. only downside i've found is that they're heavy and sink in soft stuff easier. then you can't really put in cruise and push. i've been able to man handle mine out solo, but i'm usually pretty fired up and using adrenaline. lol. even if i went to a smaller yard, i'd prob still keep a ztr, just smaller version

I’m gonna be straight with you. I don’t know why it’s faster. It is though. I just do loops like I did with my old riding mower, but it really seems quicker. Before I got mine, I’d watch my neighbor get his done way faster than I was.

Definitely works better around trees. Much more maneuverable.

Bought a simplicity and mow my lawn (1 acre) in 20 minutes now including most of the trim.
Mine has suspension on it though and the ride is smooth.
Wont ever go back to a lawn tractor

I should have stated that my yard & field is around 3 acres, thus that's where my time saving comes into play. You are correct when saying that they can tear up the grass, but I don't live in a neighborhood so I am kinda oblivious to the fact.

I used to cut lawns in college. I mowed this one ladies lawn that I used her 42" rider to mow it the first time. It took me 3 hours. Then I used my 48" walk behind zero turn and did it in just over an hour, the walk behind can be super fast too, even at regular walking speed. It's the turning that saves time, especially cutting in rows. One day when my mower was down the shop gave me a 61" scab ride on zero turn and I mowed that ladies lawn is 45 minutes. Those things are fast, full speed, spin on a dime.if my 22 year old bobcat walk behind ever dies, I will likely get a ride on zero turn
