Ok this probably seems like a dumb question, but I keep breaking hoses because they are cheap... not cheap in price but quality... Was about to flush my gutter yesterday. Was trying to get the nozzle off because I bought a new one and it ripped the entire coupling off.... Now I have to wait until next payday to get a new one... Sick of cheap crap

I bought a couple of the red Good Year branded hoses, not sure if it was made by good year but says it on the hose, a few years back, maybe 6 years ago. I love them and they have held up well. Flexzilla also makes a great product and love their air hoses. I havent used their water hose stuff but based on quality and durability, ive experienced i wouldnt hesitate to buy the brand in the future.

This is the best hose I have found. I have about 400' of it and it never kinks. Available at Northern Tool for about $50.

Not sure if ours are Zero G or not but they're very similar and are great. Got them from Sam's Club. $30ish bucks, 75 feet, kink free, light weight and durable. We've had them for 3 years, they spend all spring, summer and fall outside, they get dragged across concrete, stone, gravel and grass and they handle the abuse like a champ. I recently bought two more for my 82 year old mother-in-law because she can't wind up the heavy rubber hoses any more.

I have an acre of yard and lots of beds that has to be watered... well water, so the water only costs me the power that the pump uses.

+1 for the Goodyear. I've had mine for at least 10 years. Left out in the CA sun and still going strong. Would definitely buy again. But then again, I haven't needed to!

I'm using Flexogen hoses. They've been holding up well, but they will kink once in a while. Not bad though. Overall pretty happy with them. Home Depot carries it.

:threadjacked: Now...Having given OP something to chew on...Anybody got a hose reel they like?

Not that dammed plastic...two years in the sun, and those things are falling apart, cranks breaking off, etc. I need METAL!...cast aluminum preferably. Something that doesn't look like it belongs outside a warehouse, and won't rust like a mofo if it isn't painted every couple of years. That will eliminate most steel versions.

Apex Neverkink. They have lifetime warranty. Warranty is on the back of the hose disk. If it fails, the company will send you another.

If you want one that will most likely never fail, then as stated above, go commercial grade All Rubber. They are very expensive. Goodyear or Apex. Goodyear used to, and still may, make Apex's rubber hoses as the manufacturing process is different than layered vinyl/rubber composition of standard garden hoses. Draw back is rubber hoses are very heavy. Stay away from the 3/4" if you are just doing standard household things with the hose. Get the 5/8".

I have to read the whole thread, but I am sure someone did, or will, call it 'hose pipe'. Like fingernails on chalkboard, lol.

I sold garden hose to retailers for many years.

Another vote for the Continental black rubber hose. It is similar to the Goodyear hose and widely available. It doesn't kink / tangle any worse than all those BS kink free marketed ones. It is fairly heavy but worth it.

Weight isn’t a real issue my yard is maybe 125ft at longest point, I don’t garden just need to reach the fence to wash down every now any then. Mostly using it for washing vehicles and spraying kids off my lawn from the front porch! I like the idea of the really light no kink ones but feel like over time they will fail. Might go with the heavy duty ones that people on here are raving about. I’m sure the pressure is about the same with all of them

I have a spare salsa verde wheel that I plan to do that with. Wife doesn't know yet.

I went with a Goodyear hose from Home Depot. I was going to go with Continental but they only had 100' and I only needed 50' for car washing and such. Both have a nice rubber compound and sturdy brass fittings, the Goodyear has a monster fitting on the female end. It does twist a bit on itself here and there but in my experience these don't get holes.

Excuse my messy sweat on that male fitting, water wouldn't totally drain and I was in a hurry.

Actually, the 3/4" commercial is heavier and more difficult to coil up, but I selected the 3/4" diameter specifically to maximize pressure and flow. Now, I need to standardize on that hose and a heavy duty reel that winds it up for me. ;)

You said "rustic"...Did you mean "rusty"? :D

A spoked Model A wheel would be "rustic"...My HOA wouldn't be any more excited. :D

Have you had problems with the connector on these? I have two and I left one attached for about a year and it had some sort of galvanic corrosion with my bronze hose bib. It took a very large pipe wrench to get it off. I thought I was going to break off the bib. Now I make sure to remove it after every use.
