Just wondering what type of paint and process everyone has been doing on the chrome interior cup holder surround and silver and chrome trim around the gear shifter, would like to get I'd of it but would only like to do the process once the right way if possible, not really too terribly interested in viynl wrapping either, thanks for the advice anyone may have

Krylon paint for plastic what I used, cup holder, silver part around shifter and chrome around shifter, 2 light coats black primer, then 3 good coats flat black, wet sanded down with 1000 grit before primer

A while back, I know it was done last year summer, I can't remember if it was on Tundras Live or the What have you done to your 3rd gen? Threads, holding up good, on the back side of the shifter the small chrome piece looks like has plastic rivet heads, I used a straight razor and em off and the chrome piece can be removed so that you won't paint the gloss black section of the shifter, and this goes for the silver larger section around the shifter, I used a glue gun to hold pieces back together

I was using krylon and it kept chipping. Trying out plastidip on it now which seems to be holding up better. It seems to have some flex if that makes sense. I’ve also seen in an older thread where someone used spray on bedliner from a can that looked pretty sweet.

Scuffed mine up with some 120 grit then shot it with some matte black.

    A bunch
Tried vinyl wrapping, but it doesn't do nearly as well as paint - had a couple spots bubble up on the cup holder and shifter trim. Switched to paint recently and was super simple to do and looks a lot better. For the shifter trim I just put tape over the PRNDS area and painted the whole shifter piece as one. Did some sanding with 220 then cleaned it up before painting flat black.

Do any of the other trims(SR5/Platinum) off something other than chrome, can the piece be ordered?

How hard is it to take off the silver trim around the gear shift? Can you just pop it out the same way you can for the cup holder? Or are there screws?

It's all just clipped in. The cup holder trim can be popped out with a flat head or plastic trim tools, even a credit card works. The trim around the shifter also just pops up, just takes a little more work. I start on the driver's side near the arm rest/console and work my way forward. Once you get one side up the rest will come off easy. The black part the shifter sits in has one or two clips that you'll need to push down on the driver's side to pop it out, and it takes some finesse.. especially to put it back in.

I'm going to bump this to ask.. Does anyone happen to have a paint brand/code that is close to the silver interior pieces (around the gear shift)? I'd like to paint these chrome pieces to match that silver.
