i guess i meant run a longer spring and less preload , but yes leaving the preload ring in the same spot would make it worse

No I meant going with a longer spring that is the same weight is just going to compress the same amount, but now you've added more coils so it will bind sooner.

There is a calculation for the correct spring length. I think its based on width, stroke length, and leverage. There is only one correct length for a given application. Then you choose different coil weights based on the corner weight of the truck in order to get the correct ride height. You want the minimum amount of coil weight that will keep the suspension at ride height without binding the coils at full compression.

    Hi there,
I just bought a 08 tundra with camburg lt kit. I am going to be pulling apart the front of truck suspension to fix a leaking seal on CV input to transfer case. The person I bought it from said that the ball joints had came loose (bottom) and shredded the inside of tire has anyone had this problem with there lt kit? The ball joint issue has been fixed new bolts and stuff just seeing if it a problem or just a freak accident.

I think it's due to deferred maintenance. Heavily modifying, and I consider LT a heavy mod, necessitates more time spent inspecting/wrenching on truck. At least that's been my experience.

Ya I think (hope so) too I am taking to a friend who builds trucks, shop and having it gone thru just to be sure there are no issues. Dont want to be out in the desert and gave it come apart.

I love how it has become so standard for everyone to refer to long travel suspension in any form as a "kit". I get that it's a carry over from lift kits, but seriously it's a system of suspension components designed or purposes to work together. The whole "what kit do ya have bro?" Thing just makes it sound like the Duke boys redheaded cousin grabbed the rebar and extended his control arms. No worries I'll go back to my barley/hops intoxicant KIT now.

Might be the fact that LSK, Camburg and Total Chaos list and sell them labeled as kits.

After they are installed are they still considered to be in "kit" form? Sounds like branding following common usage of silly terms.

I dunno. I've got the TC "kit" up front but have felt it necessary to change out a lot of the "kit" parts as well as modifying the install and the truck to make things work properly. Seems like the "kit" is for street use and the "look". Example: the spec King shocks come with 600 lb coils and that spring rate doesn't work for me. Might work for an unloaded 2nd gen RCSB but not a CM loaded with fuel, water 2 37" spares and camping gear. Recommended location of the limit straps leaves the straps dragging on the axles so have to relocate those. Coil bucket double sheer should also be added if you really wanna off road. You create a lot more leverage by moving the wheels 5" farther apart and then add a ton of weight to that..... lots needs to be reinforced. I'm hoping a coil bucket brace (bucket to bucket over the top of the engine) solution will be available in the near future.
So, I started with a kit. I dunno what it is now....... Fun AF!

And EVERYBODY is calling uprights/knuckles spindles too... soooo... It's no longer an upright/knuckle, it's now a spindle. Nevermind that Tundras have unit bearings.

Haha.... Truth is, I don't even know the difference.:anonymous:
However, I won't ever talk about the "struts" on my Tundra. There at least I know the difference.

I saw a mazzula kit in person and it was pretty badass. Looks like 4" over, definitely longer than camburg or TC. but they dont list it on their website so idk

Not sure. It was a truck on a used car lot in OC. crewmax with a shitty bed cage and spring over rear. but the front was pretty awesome. Kings and mazzula. I didnt realize mazzula made a kit for us and its not advertised, but this kit has been on there for a few years, there was a little rust on the uniballs

Was it black? The truck I'm referring to got the kit installed like 4 or 5 years ago, so it might be that one.

Any opinions out there on Camburg’s Kit? I have the opportunity to pick one up for a good price but don’t know. Truck needs a sway bar so I was set on a TC Boxed kit but I do know Camburg has their sway bar they sell for their LT kits. Everyone knows what I mean when I say “do I really want to run something from Camburg...” but the price is there.

Camburg has terrible ground clearance. Almost 2" lower than a TC tube kit

Why do you want to run a sway bar? Thats going to make it handle like crap off road
