I can’t wait to install this but since I’m in it for the long haul I have to do my due diligence. Just knowing it’s a low mileage blower is not enough, I have to make sure it will last. So I will be doing some maintenance on it for peace of mind.

Upgrading the coupler also sounds easy on paper lol

Welp the holidays didn’t give me time to mess with the charger, I have done more research and apparently there’s a upgraded coupler for the newer blowers so I definitely am going to open up the nose and make sure mine has it. I did spin the charger manually and it spins like butter, no play whatsoever, so its looking like I’m just going to replace the coupler and oil change.

In the meantime a simple mod, coin holder from a sequoia......8DF77522-3DE8-4263-BAFF-40222A590388.jpg

Well fellas, life has me pretty busy, but I did have time to clean her up a bit on my only day off. Possible going to put in the fuel pump when I burn thru this tank of gas. I need to get serious lol

Upgraded coupler came in for the blower, read that it’s one of the things to replace when refreshing the blower.

Been dragging my feet on the install, I started a new job and it’s taking a lot of my attention.

I did however install the fuel pump from the kit last weekend so that’s one thing checked off the to-do list.

Been months and I got around to actually doing something. I opened the blower up and replaced the coupler. B37EE89F-B409-45AC-A374-1DF4DD14A66E.jpgA7CB8EE0-796A-41F4-9941-2157F7C839F7.jpg73F4D0BC-7F2C-4C3E-BE47-40BE869D5062.jpgE71573C0-DF7E-4736-9425-F1063B7FFEDA.jpg

While I was at it I also replaced the oil in the supercharger, when I I bought this supercharger from eBay it was supposed to be a low mileage unit, but from the color of the old oil I can tell that was a straight up lie. If I had to guess, there’s no way it has less than 70k miles. I tried to find the seller on eBay to let him hear it but since it’s been months I can’t seem to find his page.

None the less it spins smoothly and freely, I just hope no issues come up when I install it, aiming for next week or the next, fingers crossed.

I collected a low mileage TRD unit from CL a couple of weeks ago. It had 90% of the fit kit with it. Supposedly 6k miles on it, the paint isn't even worn from the idler, so I'm pretty sure it's legit. I should be able to collect the last few bits needed from the Post Office on Saturday and do the install. The fuel pump, LTR, and plugs are already done as well. I'm stoked!

Nice man!, that’s a light wheel and tire combo too. I also already done the fuel pump and have a brand new fit kit, but I have heard that I may have to do some modifications to the heat exchange line since the kit is from 2015 and I’m putting it on a 08.

Ltr? I should also do the plugs beforehand and make it one less thing to do.

    Good luck on your install!

Ya, I really noticed the difference when I had to huck the 20s into the back of the truck. :curls:

Everything that I currently have is from a '15, I'm not recognizing any significant modifications that need to be done to the LTR (Low Temperature Radiator) lines. I did have to drill new mounting holes into the upper radiator support because the welded mounts of the LTR didn't line up with the factory horn mount locations, they were only offset by an inch or so. The only other real hurdle that I foresee (besides the Post Office dragging their feet getting my hose kit delivered to my by Saturday :angrygirl:) is lifting the blower in by myself, but I have an idea. Time will tell.

After having the supercharger for almost a year it finally happen...

    4324DC0C-BA09-4DA6-853F-0FE8C713B845.jpg 45526FCF-2415-49F8-AEF7-502BA4E07640.jpg

Install took a full day with help from a second person half the time, granted the fuel pump was done months prior so that was out the way, only mistake I made was cutting a hose too short going to the cooler from the blower but It was a gates hose and my local parts store had it in stock.

I’m grateful of how good the instructions were, it made it easy to follow step by step.

So after install I still wasn’t tuned, I know I didn’t want bully dog and I don’t trust any local tuners with hp tuners. So what I decided to do was limp it to a Toyota dealer a mile down the road.

I went to turn on the truck, it started and cut off, turned it on again, this time it stayed on but was running rough, I let it warm up fully and then some, gave the ecu time to compensate somewhat, then I drove it to the dealer keeping it below 2k rpms the whole way, made it no problem, I had a contact there so he flashed it for cheap, took him about 30 min. I could officially say “boost weather” when it’s cold out lol

don’t mind the caption on the next picture, had to tell the wife I was doing “regular maintenance” on the truck lol

    32449618-0543-4A49-A967-7B5438223E77.jpg

Truck is running strong! It’s a blast! Charger sounds healthy, No noise from the bearings which is good, was a little worried about that since it was a used blower after all.

Traction is a issue, my next mods are going to address this.

the power is intoxicating to say the least but I like that I’ve keep all my daily drivability in the low rpm range. So it’s everything I imagined it would be and then some. I can’t wait to take it to the track and see what it can run. Feels like a 12 second truck to me.

Nice! You and I are at about the same point in time. I just got my truck sorted and on the road. My system was used as well, and the coolant manifold leaked. I got the new one in this past Tuesday evening, flashed the ECU, and so far all is well with the occasional P0101 CEL. I'll see if I can narrow down the cause of that this weekend when I return from work. I have a little road trip in store for it this Friday. Stoked. It just glides up to speed now, but I haven't had the chance to "hit it".

I see that you have the TRD air box as do I. Mine has the TRD reusable filter, I am suspicious that this may be my CEL issue. My first step will be to wait to see if the CEL returns again (happened twice thus far on 60 mile test drive), then swap in my paper filter.

Next item would be to clean the MAF. It appeared fine when I changed it over, and I've never used an oiled filter before, so it should still be pristine.

I am also currently on the most recent iteration of the stock TRD S/C tune, but all subsequent tunes will be from OVTune, so that's where/when our potential comparisons will diverge. I'll certainly keep my eye on what you may have to share here.

I haven’t thrown any codes yet, interestingly enough I didn’t go with the trd filtered for the very reason that it was oiled, I had a afe dry filter in the truck already so I just cleaned it and reused it.

I also had a leak, at the reservoir but i tighten the hose clamp and it seems to have gone away for now, it’s a common leak point I have read.

All my other potential leak points seem to be in hibernation. I've read that some have had leaks of the cooler reservoir with it being of a plastic construction. I imagine that there are more resilient ones available, but I'm weary from the having spent what I have and the hurdles to get my impediments sorted. I want to relax and enjoy for a time. The troubleshooting of the code is a minor distraction, it's not as though the ECU has established Limp Mode.

So it’s been six months and about 5k miles later, the truck has been solid, hasn’t thrown any codes and haven’t had any leaks.

The only issue I started having after a couple months was some belt squeal. Since the belt was new I knew it must be a pulley or tensioner.

Sound was coming more from the tensioner side so I went ahead and order one from cool springs.

    2D174E15-C641-4FD2-8A89-2D13D987306E.jpg

I slapped it on and bingo that was it. I knew I should have replaced it when I did the s/c install but I got lazy lol

This quarantine has gave me a lot of free time and parts are just a click away. Let’s see what’s next.
