Running boards: yes or no

I recently got my Tundra a leveling kit, and I took off the running boards. I didn't like the look, as I felt it blocked a lot of the new ground clearance I had when looking at the truck. However, it definitely can be a pain to get in the truck, and other people riding with me have issues as well.

I was hoping you guys could tell me your thoughts on the truck as is.. Should I leave them off? Should I buy nerf steps? What would be the best look for what I have so far?

    Any advice helps!

Sliders can be used as a step. They don’t hang out down quite as low as a true step so it may be not quite as nice as nurfs or steps. But you get to keep your ground clearance and have a ledge to step on before entering the truck. Plus now your rockers will be protected and it may help prevent door dings.

For me, it's all about accessibility. My wife's vertically challenged, so she needs them to get in comfortably (and without scuffing up the door sills). That said, I prefer the look without them, but they're not coming off any time soon.

I am 5'7 so I use the steps because short people suck and being short sucks.

If I lift it I will need a ladder

I just took mine off as well this past weekend. Love the look without, but damn its so much easier to get in and out with them. I just cant find a set I really like and if I was going to spend $1000 on sliders I would look into AMP research motorized steps. They are sweet and fold up when the door is closed. Pretty sweet.

No, sliders are not worth it if you're not going to wheel off-road. Those power amp steps are pricey but they keep that clean look!

I have always opposed adding running boards or steps, but now I am looking for a set for my long bed 2002 Tundra since I recently added running boards to my 2007... neither of my trucks are lifted, and one is lowered a bit.

Agreed. I do like the look of sliders though. I had a set on my tacoma. Im undecided right now. But those AMP steps are sweeeet! Only part you dont get which to me is a big benefit is the door ding protection.

One knock I have heard on electric ones is that if you go to the beach a lot (I do), the sand and salt can really do a number on them very quickly...

Yeah, but she did so good fro a couple days without getting caught until she got caught and almost gave me a coronary!
I need to look into having a top plate welded on, in the meantime maybe Jake @CaptSpaulding can be healthy enough to operate a power saw for wood inserts...

These are a good option as well. Not quite as expensive as everyone else. Some runningboards will cost you the same. This place has options for top plates as well as a lighter version for someone who doesn’t off road as much. Depends on the thickness of the metal you want. I would say both are pretty stout but for someone who is serious they would go with the 188 dom.

Edited. Forgot to post the link LOL

I've got the N-Fab nerf bars. They were bent up during shipping but was able to pound the mounts back into position. I don't like losing the clearance, I have a 4 mile off road driveway. But I keep telling myself to just take it slow, truck will be lifted before long. I need this third step when digging into the tool box in my bed. Maybe the Demello Rock Crushers or something like that would also work. They look like they extend back to the bed.

    2019 Tundra TRD Sport
100% this. I prefer the look without or with sliders only but wife is all of 5'2" and in hunting season with big boots on, she wants something she can more easily step up on and into the truck. No way I could get rid of them.

In city truck no lift, black ,not really necessary, although it helps with door ding dickheads.
Off road, lift, short wife especially in Sky Silver like mine definitely a step or slider of some kind.
