Damn, that sucks! Good of the tire shop to step up though. Did you take it to an indpendent shop or a chain?

The Kal Tire I go to says to return for a retorque after 100KMS. So did the independent I used to go to. I have a torque wrench so I just do it myself. FYI, the Mastercraft Maximum torque wrench is a good value especially when on sale.

I just want to slam my dick in the door every time I hear about a shop not tightening lug nuts! Is this really that hard to remember? Meanwhile, the tire shop employees wonder why they only get paid $10 per hour.

Damn! Glad no one was hurt!

I have a buddy that just after getting new tires on his 08 tundra, he could hear a weird noise and vibration at 80km/hr on the highway, so he pulls over checked his tires, wheels.... turns out he’s lug nuts where just hand tight!

I picked up a nice torque wrench this month at Canadian tire on sale for $60. The brand that @Outbound mentioned, Mastercraft Maximum, and also came with a breaker bar for $60!

When I take a vehicle in for new tires or rotation, as soon as I see it being moved into a bay, I go stand outside the bay and monitor the entire operation. So I make sure they've torqued everything. But another problem I've noticed, almost without exception, is that the youngsters haven't been taught properly how to use the torque wrench. They just put it on the lug and give it a good hard yank. If they hear it click, they're done. That's not at all the way to get the proper torque. So I end up retorquing when I get home anyway.

Now I'm pissed. I paid about $60 for my Maximum torque wrench but I had to buy my breaker bar separately!

Never go full retard(tire shops specifically), gotta always do ugga dugga’s on those lug nuts, or even better use a torque wrench

I watch them like a hawk at the tire shop. I remove my center caps for them and I asked them to please use a torque wrench to my specified torque. Then I go home and check it anyways. I tell them not to tighten my lugs down with an impact please.

I have a friend who won’t even take his truck to the tire shop anymore. He takes all his rims and tires down to the shop to have them mounted and then returns home to put on the vehicle.

That's pretty much where I'm at. My lug nuts are all chewed up thanks to the last tire shop I went to. The one I go to now is pretty good but I still ask them not to tighten with the impact.

Just rolled up on this yesterday, on a decently steep hill. Girl going downhill, front left came off and was jammed in wheel well (car) was sitting on it's rotor. Lucky it was jammed under there (even with the cosmetic damage it caused her vehicle), because if that rim and tire rolled on down the hill someone/thing was getting fubar.

Changed it for her and told her to take it to someone who knows what they're doing, not her cousin anymore... When she heard that funny noise, her cousin said that "it takes a little time for the tires to get used to being on there." (actual quote)

Indeed. A LOT of those prizes being given out all the time. "If you're going to be stupid, you better be tough". Not sure who's quote that is, I just GTS, and it credited John Grisham...
