I had a 2005 SR5 Quad cab, 103k miles. It was recently stolen, rammed a police car, in a high speed police and found 20 days later completely totaled. I got $12k from the insurance which was more than I thought I'd get. It was a great truck. I miss it.

That's a little bit under dealer retail value but still a nice chunk of change for a 15 year old vehicle.
I definitely need to bump my coverage, my 05 has 90k miles on it so I'm ahead of the game considering I paid $8,000

Like the sign said at OSU Gill coliseum “you can’t lick our Beavers”. I think it had more to due with the sorority curfew hours than their basketball team’s ability.

So true. Most folks think the big rivalry is O vs OSU....nope...Ducks vs Huskies. That's fine with me. I miss the pnw. Used to live just south of Eugene. There are several members here in your neighborhood.

From what I've learned from this forum.
    1. Never accept the first offer given by any insurance company. It's their job to low ball you. Their job is to Save every god damn penny in the world.
    2. Show all the receipts and work done for more compensation.
    3. In the event of a total loss. you do your homework and look in YOUR ENTIRE STATE to get an average value of your truck.
4 . Get quotes for the repair from two or three shops. You’ get a better idea of what it would cost. I am 100% sure each shop will ask you if the repairs are insurance paid or out of pocket. Tell them insurance paid . The difference is that they’ll low ball the quotation if out if pocket to get your business.

Some would argue with my 4th point but that’s my personal experience.

Lot of good comments here. Definitely negotiate for reasonable compensation. My 2012 TRD was totaled last year when a Cadillac rear ended me. Folded the frame good. I had to haggle with Travelers to get the price up. They wouldn't add value for my mods but compensated me for items in the vehicle that were damaged and for intangibles like stress and inconvenience. Oddly, I was able to match my mods with such BS

Really sorry this happened to your truck Chip! I would just tuck it in to a safe place for now until you find the best plan of action. You came to the right forum for advice, all these folks are very knowledgeable and forthcoming with answers. I understand the blood, sweat and tears you put into it, just to be taken away by some irresponsible human. If that guy hit my truck, I would dismantle his house board by board and build his coffin with them! Sorry but I am pissed.

I don't have personal experience but have read a lot about it (and I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night). By all means do all you can yourself to research and support a fair value, but if you come up against a wall where the ins company will not go any higher you can hire a professional appraiser to determine a value. Have heard of people getting an extra $5k that way on older, low mileage, "special condition" vehicles. Or save yourself all the headache/research and hire the appraiser right away. Have also read that, depending on the state, even if you buy it back (if they total it) you are still forced to accept a salvage title.

When my jeep was wrecked 10 years ago the insurance company did not care what estimates I got for repair. I can even remember the agent saying something like "our contract is to repair or replace your vehicle. You have no say in how we do it. I remember asking for all new OEM Jeep parts and he said, "No way. The damaged parts we are replacing are not new, they're used. So we'll replace them with similar used parts unless similar are not available. As for choosing the shop "We'll give you a list of local repair shops that you can take your jeep to and get it repaired. If you want to get the repairs yourself, we'll give you a check for the amount we were going to pay our approved shops. That's it, that's all." Insurance programs may have changed in the ensuing 10 years, just sharing my experience that the attitude was pretty much "we have a contract, take it or leave it"

I just recently got hit on my back passenger tire by a lady paying more attention to her phone than the road, which in turn pitted me and caused me to flip twice when I was only going 25 miles an hourthat was on feb 6 and by feb 27 i had a check in my hand for $8,100 and your truck has 50000 less miles on it

That's about what we have estimated the value to be with info from Manheim and KBB.
I have also learned region also plays into the equation,

This is the modern world we live in. There are companies out there that essentially corner a whole market and in turn control cost, image and message. Here is another example

    Screenshot_20190619-074919.jpg

So when you are watching the news, keep in mind Sinclair most likely owns them. Change the channel and the news is shoving the same message down your throat. Sinclair most likely owns them too. This kind of control and influence is really powerful

I turned off the TV ‘programming’ and thus also the ‘news’ many years ago. It freed up mucho time for other activities, not to mention critical thinking skills space.

I often stop people when they begin there negative rants about Trump and/or AOC (2 extreme ends). I'm quick to point out that the information we have has been tainted, we can't freely form an opinion because of what the tabloid news has to say.

Man, sorry to hear that. I had a 2000 for 15 years and it never let me down (minus a lot of brake rotors and exhaust manifolds). I hope you can fix it and still be happy. People suck

    Asking $13,500!

Prices have really gone up in just a year on our trucks.

:itllbuffout: Sucks to see a nice first gen like that. IMO, unless there is frame damage, looks like a new bed and a little body work to me. Take whatever pays the most money, totaled or not, and might just have to piece one together. Good luck.
