Front and back yard. I'm not as anal about it as I used to be. Just do enough now to keep it looking decent and mostly weed free so I don't lose it.
As you can see I mow in several different directions. It's better for the grass so it's not pushed down the same direction all the time. It starts to look crappy if you do that, and itll start to leave tire ruts. My mower is 23 years old, bobcat 48" with original Kohler command 15hp. No roller or fancy attachments, Regular maintenance will go a long way. When I was in college I used the mower to pay tuition. I cut about 20 lawns a week with it.

Try mowing the same stripes each time! Sometimes it takes time for good stripes to form.

Try doing the same route for a couple of weeks!

If your mower has a plastic or rubber flap that drags behind it, try adding weight to it. It's the way the grass is laying down that makes the stripes. I've seen some people go as far as using rollers, like they do on pro sports fields

I have a striping kit on my mower, it’s just a bunch of rollers (heavy as hell).
Here is my buddies yard about a year old, same mower and stripe kit. Key is to mow same direction every time, I start in the same spot every time. I also mow very tall 4-5”, it’s all about what kinda look you want. My neighbor is trying to mow his at 1”, he is getting there. This yard is mowed at 4”. 0F50E0E2-FB81-4A83-AC83-8866DCDAE656.jpg

I am not sure other than I believe it’s due to me bagging the clippings. This adds some weight to it as it goes along and helps “lay” the grass down. At least that’s my theory anyway. Lol

Looks like @Pudge beat me to it!

I am a total newb to maintaining a lawn and this is what I have inherited.

Not sure what type of grass (NW Florida).

There is a bunch of this thin stuff on one side of the yard and some thicker grass in the back. Any suggestions on how to tackle this to get it nice and thick? The only weeds I really get are the long stems with a peace sign at the top.

just finished adding an additional 130 ft.² of Zorro Zosia to my backyard. I started with Geo Zosia and had all kind of problems with it so I ripped it out earlier this week and put this down this evening.

We just had a bunch of rain come through Atlanta so that worked out.

That mulch border looks nice sir! I was looking at doing this to help keep some moisture in the summer months for the fence posts.

That's an incredible plot of land you've got there. How many acres? The corn yours too? What do you grow to the right of your driveway? Alfalfa? I assume you hay that field.

The big plot is a family and I spoke for what is around me. I don't want to have any close neighbors. I don't have anyone near me now and want to keep it that way.

Alfalfa sells for crazy high prices around here but I guess it's tough to grow because not many farms grow it. I know a guy who keeps trying but has only succeeded in 2 of his fields, kinda weird. He has about 140 acres and has tried to grow it in 4 or 5, about 6 acre plots and only took off in 2 of them.

    Thank you!

I’ve always preferred the look of mulch over rocks. More maintenance, but I don’t mind keeping it up.

From the picture, you have some Bermuda and looks like some trace amounts of st Augustine. Choose which one you want to grow more of. If it's Bermuda, mow your grass low (.5-1.5") and if you want the st Augustine, Jack your mower all the way up and mow often for both.
